Welcome summer. Now, the days will be getting shorter till December, but that doesn’t seem to matter because it’s summer and the kids are home and all is well with the world. I’ve spent some time at the public beach in Cromwell on Island Lake and it seems that the kids and adults that are there are sure enjoying some relaxing time. With our busy lives, it is so important to get some time to relax by the beach.
The children of Russ and Barb Hart will be hosting an Open House in their honor on the occasion of their 50th Wedding Anniversary on Saturday, July 9th, 2005 from 1 - 4 PM at the Cromwell Pavilion. All family, friends, and neighbors are invited to help them celebrate this special day.
The next BIG EVENT in Wright will be the 40th Annual Wrong Days in Wright on July 15 -17th. This year, as in the past years, there will be Fireworks on Friday evening, Kids Tractor Pull, steak fry and the pie social. On Saturday, there will be the parade, smorgasbord, arts and crafts, Flea Markets, special music at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in the afternoon, ball tournaments, horseshoe tournaments, class reunions, a dance and the other usual events. Buttons and raffle tickets are available at area businesses. Look for posters in area businesses for all the details Then on Sunday, attend the church service of your choice in the morning and then come to the 100th Anniversary Celebration of Beseman Township at the Big Top, 1-4 PM. The township will provide the food. Please bring your old photos and stories of the township and call your friends and relatives to attend if they ever lived in Beseman. You don‚t have to be a resident or former resident to attend either. Everyone is welcome!
There is a special invitation to all the former Kings and Queens of Wrong Days to ride or walk in the parade, or to be at WD on Saturday.
Remember to bring your Wrong Days memorabilia for display. The person with the most will receive a prize.
The Cromwell Class of 1956 will be meeting at Wrong Days in the Big Top at 1 PM to plan their 50th Class Reunion for next summer.
Angel Pylka had a nice group of folks attending her graduation party at her dad’s cabin on Cromwell Lake on June 25th. Angel is to be congratulated for a fine high school career and will now pursue a career in medicine.
Ray Lally received a Thank You letter for his efforts in coordinating the Cromwell Community Blood Drive on June 15th. There were 33 people who registered and 27 were able to give blood. As one unit of blood can help as many as three people, 81 patients could be benefiting from the units collected in Cromwell.
Each week, Memorial Blood Centers need more than 2,100 donors to adequately supply blood in area hospitals. Since less than 7% of the population donates blood on a regular basis, the donations from our area are vital.
Ray wants to thank everyone who participated this year as it couldn’t be done without you and you know who you are.
The next WELCA meeting will be at Bethlehem Lutheran on July 6th at 7 PM. They will be planning for the Pie Sale at Wrong Days for Friday, July 15th along with other business and reports.
Austan John Orvedahl was baptized at Bethany Lutheran in Cromwell on June 19th. Parents are Matt and McKenzie Orvedahl and his sponsors are Angela Orvedahl and Tim Smith.
Also baptized recently was Kaleb Gregory Anderson, son of Greg and Jennifer Anderson.
This is quite a year for milestone birthdays in our family. My sister Margaret turned 65 on July 1st, brother Glen turned 62 on June 2, I will be 60 on August 31st and brother John turned 55 on April 18th. Our brother Mark has the only odd birthday as he turned 51 on April 19th, but his wife Linda turned 50 on January 27th.
I led the church services at the Tamarack Presbyterian Church on July 3rd and will be there again on July 24th. Visitors are always welcome to attend at the 11 AM service.
By the time you read this, the 229th 4th of July will already be celebrated, but just to let you know I hope your holiday was safe and fun. Keep those flags flying and show your support for our country and our Troop’s in harm’s way.
That’s all the news from Lake GodBlessAmerica and Hello to all the families of our military.

Last Tuesday, June 22nd, we saw the most beautiful Full Moon rising over the southeastern sky. It was farther south than I can ever remember and it also was on the first day of summer. The moon was a huge ball of golden orange color, like the one you see in the fall at harvest moon time. I wonder how often the first day of summer and a full moon happen on the same day? I hope it is a sign of good things to come.
Wrong Days will again be happening on July 15th - 17th. This will be the 40th Annual, so please try to let everyone know and attend. There will be ALL the regular events and also there will be a special contest for the person or group that has the most memorabilia from all the past Wrong Days. So, start finding all the old tee shirts, buttons, posters, photos of the parades, etc. and get them in display form for Saturday at the Big Top.
The class of 1956 (Alice Lake’s) has asked to set up a booth for the planning of next year’s 50th Class Reunion. Please stop by their booth at 1 PM on Saturday so they can start planning. The Class of 1955 and 1957 are also welcome to stop by.
There will be a Tractor Pull on Friday night at Wrong Days for kids under 12 years of age. Parents need to be there for the kids to participate in this fun event. Trophies are given out to the 1st and 2nd Place winners in each age group and every child gets a free can of pop for participating.
Beseman Township will be celebrating their 100th Anniversary on July 17th at the Big Top in Wright from 1-4PM. Please try to let everyone know who ever lived in Beseman and also other guests are welcome to attend. The township will provide the food. Bring your pictures, stories and family histories if you have any. It should be a great get together! I think Vera Suhonen is the oldest living life long resident of the township, so she is to be honored at the picnic.
Several area folks went to the Domino Center in Duluth to serve lunch on Friday, June 17th.
The 4th Annual Spelling Bee was held at the Villa Vista on June 15th, 2005. And for the 3rd year in a row, Betty Johnson, formerly of Wright, was the winner. Her winning word was “H-o-n-o-l-u-l-u”. 2nd place went to Ann Vorderbruggen and 3rd place to Gladys Clark. There were several guys that also were very respectable spellers. Those others who participated were Bob, Wanda, Nancy, John, Francis, Eddie, Lillian, Esther, Hulda, Sonja, and Lempi. Thank you all for being such good sports and participating.
The Wright Fire Department will be celebrating their 50th Anniversary on Saturday, July 2nd. Come to the Fire Hall that day to see the new fire truck and the various displays they will have set up.

My grand kids have been attending Vacation Bible School at Hope Lutheran in Floodwood this week, June 20 - 24th. It seems that there isn’t going to be Bible School in Cromwell until the 2nd week in August, so I thought I’d bring them to Floodwood. There are at least 60 kids in VBS this year with a great number of adults and helpers to keep these very active kids learning about the Lord.
Jeremy and Mindy Hoover and little sister Emma have a new baby boy in the family. He was named Levi Allan.
That’s all the news for this week from Lake Getting hotterandhotter and Hello to new baby Levi and his wonderful family.
