Welcome Spring! It’s been pretty nice so far this spring. The baseball and softball players have started practicing and the Track Team is out running. I haven’t seen any robins yet, but many have commented on seeing them, so I guess spring is here! Maybe I’m just too busy to notice them.
Did anyone forget to turn those clocks ahead last weekend? There were a few kids who came late to Sunday school, but I’m assuming it was just harder to get the kids up and out of bed an hour earlier.
It’s pretty quiet around our house now that the grandkids have gone back to live with their mother. It’s a real change in lifestyle when they are gone most of the time. But, I guess we’ll get them on weekends so that will be good. They sure were fun to have around even if they were lots of extra work, too.

There was a big turn out at the last Wrong Days in Wright Meeting, so there will be a Wrong Days again this year! There will be the usual schedule of events and the Friday night King and Queen Coronation and Talent Show will be back! There will be a Spaghetti Feed on Friday instead of the steak fry. Sounds like things are really rolling along and the next WD meeting will be on April 11th at the Fire Hall at 7 PM. New officers elected are President, Dennis Cieluch, Sheldon Larson, Treasurer, and Kevin and Sherry as Secretaries. More volunteers are always needed.
Mary Rose Varo, of Cromwell, will be singing and entertaining at the next Carlton County Retired Educators Meeting on Tuesday, April 25th at Gampers in Moose Lake. Jerry DeRungs was scheduled to speak at this meeting, but he will be unable to make it, so Mary Rose has said she will fill in.
Mary Rose Varo is a local singer and songwriter. She has written 7 songs and recorded most of them. She sang at the South Dakota State Fair last summer and has several engagements coming up this summer. She was a finalist last summer in the Writers Competition at the Mahtowa HWY 61 Folk Festival and will be singing at the Cromwell Community Arts Fair on April 29th at the school. Her songs are inspirational and down to earth. In fact her song about Unsung Heroes and “This Old Farm” have received statewide recognition. “This Old Farm” is a tribute to the Century Old Farms and is used often to pay tribute to these families who have stayed on the land for over 100 years.
Mary Rose Varo will also be the guest speaker at the Annual Bethlehem Lutheran Ladies Mother-Daughter Tea held at the church on May 13th at 1:30 PM.
There is a full schedule of dances set for the Cromwell Park Pavilion this summer. The next dance will be held on April 27th from 1 - 4 PM featuring the music of Erv’s Variety Band.
The Area Clothing Depot has donated money to many area causes. In 2005 they donated a total of $2,100. They gave $150 to the Cromwell-Wright Title One Program, $200 for the Cromwell-Wright Spanish Club Trip, $150 to the Cromwell- Wright Post Prom Event, $150.00 to the Cromwell- Wright School Athletic Fund Raiser, $100.00 to the Carlton CountyYouth Shelter, $150 to Dollars for Scholars, $200 to the Cromwell-Wright After School Program, $200 to the Tri-Community Food Shelf, $200 to the Cromwell- Wright School Wolf Ridge Trip, $200 to the United Way of Carlton County, $100 to the Cromwell- Wright School Athletic Fund for the State Football Tournament Trip, $200 to the Cromwell Fire Department, and $100 to the Shine 24/7 Youth Group. That’s a pretty impressive list of donations for a small community. This is all made possible by the wonderful volunteers, customers and the great donations they receive. Remember that the Area Clothing Depot is open on Tuesday and Saturday from 10-3 and donations should be left on the first landing of the south entrance of the old Wright School.

The local 4-H Club will be holding a Chicken Swap at the Feed Mill in Wright on May 6th. The kids will also be selling Hot Dogs, Buns, and Pop Etc. Even if you don’t want to buy any birds, please come out and support these fine young kids and their families.
The old Bethany Church in Cromwell has been sold and people have been asked not to use this area as a parking lot. It is now Private Property and is not to be used for school events.
By the time you read this, the Spanish Club will be on there 8 - day trip to Yucatan, Mexico. The Spanish Club would like to thank everyone who donated to this trip and they all say: “Grande GRACIAS” many Thanks.
There will be NO SCHOOL April 8 - 17th for Spring Break.
The PTA Cookbooks are in. They are great! They may be purchased at the school for $8.50. There is a limited supply, so if you want some get in and buy them now. One lady came in and bought 10 of them at one time. They would make great gifts, too.
Congratulations to Kylee Smith, daughter of Dick and Terry Smith, for being chosen to be on the 2006 News Tribune All-Area Girls Basketball Team First Team. Her photo appeared in the March 26, 2006 Duluth News Tribune. Kylee is a Senior Guard at Cromwell-Wright School. She averaged 21 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals per game this year. She is planning on playing for UMD this fall and she is also an AP all-state honorable mention player.

The final calendar has not been set yet for next year’s school schedule, but it looks like school will start on September 5th. This will give our students 95 days off for summer vacation.
I am still looking for Miles Beckner’s Address. If you have it, please let me know.
Bill Freiermuth had the misfortune of breaking his leg while helping down south in the hurricane cleanup. He is now back home recuperating. Get well and heal quickly, Bill. Bill did get to see his son Craig, though before he is deployed to Iraq.
That’s all the news from Lake Cleanupthoseyards and a Special Hello to Thelma Johnson who just turned 85 on March 29th.
Update!
Cromwell Y.O.T.
The next meeting of the Cromwell Young Old Timers will be held on Tuesday, April 11 beginning at 12:00 Noon. This will be our Easter Celebration Dinner. Please bring a dish to share at the table. (Ham will be provided.)
