I got this email from Kathy Olson and thought it was worth noting.  “At three minutes and four seconds after 2 AM on the 6th of May this year, the time and date will be 02:03:04 05/06/07.  This will never happen again!” But, after thinking about it for a while I got to thinking it would happen again that afternoon at 2 PM.  But then next year it will be 03:04:05 06/07/08 on June 7th.  So for those of you who love numbers, enjoy these.

Channing Lucking was celebrated at the Cromwell United Methodist Church on Sunday, April 29, 2007 with a baptism and new member service, officiated by Pastor Russ Christensen.  Close family and friends were on hand for her festivities including Elouise Lucking (grandmother) of Cromwell; Cory Lucking (dad) and Josh Lucking (brother) of Lakeville; Brett Lucking (uncle) of Cromwell; and Carrie, John and Gracie Foley (aunt/uncle/cousin) of Cromwell.  Channing, for all you are and about to become, we are all proud of you!  Channing is a Senior at Cromwell High School and will graduate on May 25th with more celebrations to come.

~Cruising at 95!~ Ruth Karki, Dwight and Kathy Olson, and Brett and Carol Tamminen from Inver Grove Heights recently flew from Minneapolis to Tampa, Florida, meeting six of their Florida relatives, and one relative from Phoenix, New York for a four day cruise to Cozumel, Mexico for Ruth’s Aunt Mamie’s (who lives in Seminole, Florida) 95th birthday celebration.  They all had a grand time aboard the Carnival Cruise Ship, “Inspiration”.  They all agreed they were treated as royalty being waited on “hand and foot”.  No wonder they call it the “Fun Ship”!  They were impressed to hear the Inspiration was built by a “Finlander” in 1996!

Are you having difficulty getting down to cut your toenails?  We’ve got a solution. Come to the Wright Seniors Building on June 6 at 11 a.m. A county nurse will be there to clip those hard nails. Cost only $12.

Hundreds of Grandparents attended this year’s annual Grandparent’s Day at the school.  The kids sang their hearts out and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, thanks to all the teachers, staff and kitchen crew.

The Senior Awards Banquet will be on May 28th.  Call the school to reserve a place.

The Title I Spring Fling will be on May 8th.

There will be a small animal/chicken swap “Swap Meet” on Saturday, May 5th at the Feed Mill in Wright from 8 – 1.

The 2nd Annual Boy Scout Pancake Breakfast will be held at the Cromwell Park Pavilion on Sunday, May 13, Mother’s Day.

The funeral for Josh Jones, formerly of the Cromwell area, was held on Thursday, April 26th, 2007 at the West Side church in Rural Kettle River, Mn.  There were many, many young people in attendance along with family and friends.  Josh, age 22, died in a single car accident on April 21, 2007 in Superior Wisconsin with his friends Brian Drain, 21, and Burgess “Jeb” Houska, 20.  Pastor Tim Homstad gave a wonderful message of hope, Kathy Weiditz sang and played the piano, and others shared their feelings about Josh, too.  His ashes were buried in the nearby cemetery.  To his parents, Verlena and Cary Jones, his sisters, Amy and Gary Allen of Texas, Kymberlee and Luke Wilson of KR, MN and Keri and Jesse Pruette of Moose Lake, MN and all others who held him near and dear, we offer our sympathy on this tragic event.

Russell Fred Hart, 72 of Wright died peacefully in his home on Friday, April 27, 2007. He battled pancreatic cancer for eleven months. He faced his illness as he faced his life straight forward and uncomplaining. Russell was born in Cloquet in 1935 to Herman and Hazel Hart. He attended Center School (one room) and later the Wright School. He was married to Barbara Groth on July 9, 1955 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wright. Russell worked on the family farm and later continued on his own farm. He was a milk hauler for the Wright Creamery. He served his country in the National Guard and received an Honorable Discharge. He was a Heavy Equipment Operator in the 49ers union for over 40 years. He worked as a foreman for Utility Systems prior to his retirement in 1998. Russell served his community as a board member of Beseman Township, and had memberships with the Deer Hunters Association and the NRA. Russell was also a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Russell was an avid hunter and sportsman. He was active and vibrant his entire life as he continued to enjoy logging and conservation of the forests into his 71st year. Russell always had a great love for his family and was a kind neighbor and friend. He was preceded in death by parents, Herman and Hazel; brothers, Lawrence and George; and sister, Carolyn. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Barbara; four children, Dave Hart of Minneapolis, Jody (Craig) Cooper of Sauk Rapids, Chuck (Jan) Hart of Anoka, and Julie (Jerry) Kalk of Circle Pines; eight grandchildren, Amy, Eric, Duane, Heather, Kelly, Jill, Jonathan, and Kari; sister, Judy VonDeLinde; sister-in-law Marlene Hart; aunt, Evelyn and uncle, Vernon; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  His funeral was held at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Wednesday, May 2, 2007 and burial was in the Wright Public Cemetery.  He will be missed by family, friends and neighbors.

The Annual Mother-Daughter Tea and Luncheon will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wright, MN on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at 1:30 Pm.  This year’s theme is “Make your Mum Hum!” presented by Suzanne Taplin and her daughter Hannah.  There will also be other special guest readers, singers, etc.  All area mothers and daughters are welcome to attend even if you come alone.  So, if you are a mother or a daughter and you all are daughters, Please Come!

Cemetery Clean-up will be on Saturday, May 5 starting at 9 AM at the Wright Public Cemetery behind Bethlehem Lutheran Church.  Workers are really needed.  There will be a Pot Luck Dinner at noon.

Household Hint:  Freshen up those artificial flowers by dipping them in rubbing alcohol or swab them thoroughly with a small paint brush or cotton swab.

Minnesota Trivia: What city is located where 3 rivers converge at the Mississippi, St. Croix, and Vermillion Rivers?  Why it’s Hasting, MN. Proctor Knott referred to Duluth, MN as the “zenith city of the unsalted seas”.  And one more, The Voyageurs National Park is 219,000 acres of land and water.

There’s an old saying: “Rain, rain, go away, come again another day,” but we really needed the rain so we don’t want it to go away until things “green up” around here.  In fact on Friday, April 20th, there was a small bush/woods fire just north of Wright, just past the end of the tar road about a mile.  I don’t know how it may have started, but the DNR were there along with the small helicopter that has the water dumping capability and they quickly got the fire under control and put out.  Thanks guys for the speedy quenching of the flames.  It could have been a bad one if the fire had started on the west side if the road instead if the east side as the wind was from the east that afternoon.

A small group of family and friends met at the home of the late Roxanne Norton and her significant other, Dwaine Bruchu in Wright on Sunday, April 22, 2007 to celebrate her life.  Roxanne died of cancer at the young age of 48 on March 15, 2007.  I (Jennie K. Hanson) was honored to say a few words, read the Bible passages, pray and offer comfort to the family.  Everyone there received a small memorial stone and a 3 nail cross necklace to remember Roxanne by.  Roxanne was truly a giving person and she will be deeply missed by her favorite fishing partner, Dwaine and all who knew and loved her.

Our sympathy is extended to the family of Ruby Ella Sorenson Olsen, 88 of Wright who died on April 16, 2007 in the Aicota Health Care Center in Aitkin, Mn.  She was a resident there for the past 5 years.  Her funeral was held at Northland Funeral Home on April 18, 2007.  We knew Ruby best when she owned and operated Ruby’s Diner from 1978 – 1988.  So, to her surviving children, Richard, Dale, Dennis, Jerry, Chester, Marlys and Ardelle, brothers and sister, and all the grandchildren and great grandchildren, keep her in your hearts and treasure her memory.

There will be a Finnish Battu (May Day celebration) dance on Saturday, May 5th at the Superior Moose Club, located at 66 East 5th Street.  The regular dance time is 5-9, but the doors will open at 4 p.m.  Admission is $10 which includes lunch. Two bands will perform – May Prachter and Mark Wiita.  There will also be a silent auction and other fun.  It’s a good time to kick up your heels and celebrate spring!

The Guest speaker at the May 2 meeting of the Wright Senior Citizens Club will be Virda Hall, Ombudsman for Older Minnesotans.  Meeting time is 1:30 p.m.  Ombudsmen are independent consumer advocates who investigate complaints and resolve disputes in problems older people may have in nursing homes, residences, hospital services or in home services.

As consumer advocates can provide helps in choosing a nursing home or other type of residence for older Minnesotans.  The public is invited. The St. John’s Sunday School sang for Easter.  They also had their quarterly meeting on Sunday April 15th.  Plans are being made for the Ham Dinner on Friday, June 29th.

Sara, Jake & Elisabeth Kachinske will be attending the wedding of Julia Kachinske (Jake’s cousin) and Travis Linsey in Grand Rapids on Saturday April 21st.  Travis and Julia will be moving to Honolulu, Hawaii where they first met.

The Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell is holding their annual Bake and Rummage Sale at the church on Friday April 28th and Saturday April 28 till noon.

Edna Murto has asked me to announce that the Friends of Animals is holding their annual Rummage Sale at the Cloquet Armory on May 12th. 24 guys and gals attended the annual End-of-the-Year Pool Breakfast at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wright.  A few gals from the church made all the food and the folks all enjoyed their breakfast.  Lincoln Hansen awarded the trophy’s.  1st place went to Ken Lake, 2nd Place to Duane Shaffer, and 3rd place to Bill Sorenson, all with over 600 averages.

Single’s Trophy’s went to Ken Lake for 1st Place and Bill Sorenson for 2nd Place.  Most improved player was Bob Beck.  Most of the guys that play on a regular basis at Toini and Leonard Aho’s were able to attend the breakfast with their spouses.  Toini and Leonard were also given a gift of appreciation.

Household Hint: Keep the children interested in their toys by putting some of them away for a month or two.  Watch the reaction when you bring them out again!

Today’s Minnesota Trivia:  Ramsey County is the smallest county in MN.  It is 39 times smaller than St. Louis County the largest.  William Orville Douglas, born in 1898, from Maine, MN served on the U. S. Supreme Court longer than any other Justice.  There are over 1,400 islands in Lake of the Woods.  And finally, Luther Northwestern Theological Seminary in St. Paul is the largest Lutheran seminary in the western hemisphere.
