Did you find all your Easter eggs over the weekend? Remember: Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Churches were full and families were together for the weekend. I hope your Easter was great!
Our sympathy to the family of Robert “Bob” Henry Peterson, 75 of Wright, MN who died on April 4, 2007 while trying to get the snow blower going. He had shoveled his way to the garage and when he didn’t come back into the house, Yvonne went out to look for him and that’s when she found him in the garage. Over 300 people attended his funeral on April 7th at Bethany Lutheran church in Cromwell. He leaves his loving wife Yvonne, and their children Karla, Brad, Keith and Butch and their spouses and families, a brother, Carlyle, and sisters, Karen, Ruth, and Marlyce and their families. Bob will be remembered for his dry wit and caring spirit. Thanks, Bob for all you did to make our area communities what they are today!
The Lake Country Power Company will be holding their Annual Meeting at the Myles Reif Center in Grand Rapids on Saturday, April 21 starting at 9AM with Continental breakfast and Business Meeting at 10AM. A District 8 Board Member will be elected. too. Those running are incumbent, Danny Smith and John Manninen and Frank Turnock. Ballots came in the mail last week. This meeting us usually well attended and there are always great Door Prizes. The Board of directors of CAP-TRICO have unanimously approved a merger with Federated Co-ops Inc., their sister cooperative to the south. Federated is a strong supplier of energy products offering services similar to them in propane and bulk petroleum with offices strategically located across their territory. Federated’s corporate office is located in Princeton, MN and has locations which overlap our southern border.
The merger must be approved by two-thirds of the CAP-TRICO members by voting in person or by written ballot at the special meeting held on April 19th, 2007 at the Cloquet Carlton County Chamber of Commerce building located at 225 Sunnyside Drive, Cloquet, Mn. Informational meetings will be held at the Cromwell Pavilion on April 19th at 4 PM, and the McGregor Community Center on April 18th at 6:30 PM for those interested. Look for a letter from them that came in the mail last week.
The Mini Bus goes to Duluth on Friday the 13th. Call Edna Samuelson at 357-2701 to sign up ahead of time.
The Cromwell Park Pavilion will host a senior dance on Thursday, April 26th from 1 – 4 PM.
Please don’t be alarmed if you see guns at the school in the next few weeks. The Gun Training Safety Classes are now underway. Pat Messer is the head instructor and this class is open to anyone needing the Gun Safety Certificate. They will be meeting on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
All area Mothers and Daughters are invited to attend the Annual Mother-Daughter Tea and Luncheon at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Saturday, May 12th starting at 1:30 PM. This year’s main speaker is Suzanne Taplin and her daughters with the Topic: Keep your Mum Humming.
Are you planning your summer vacations yet? If so a wonderful event is planned every summer at Walnut Grove, Mn. That’s when the Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant is held on the weekends of July 6-7-8, 13-14-15, and 20-21-22. This is the 30th Anniversary of the pageant and it is great. I attended it a couple of years ago and highly encourage you to try to attend.

Duane and Shirley Johnson will be celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary on Saturday, April 21st at Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell from 1 – 4 PM. Everyone welcome.
Bethany Lutheran will also be having their Annual Spring Rummage and Bake Sale on April 27th (8 AM – 5 PM) and 28th from 8 – 11 AM.
Do you have any Boy Scout uniforms that could be donated to our local troop? Just call Doreen Warner or me if you can to donate them.
The 6th graders will be attending 6th Grade Orientation at the school on April 23rd. This is a day when 6th graders follow 7th graders around during the day to see what high school will be like.
Kindergarten Round – Up will be on the morning of Wednesday, May 2nd. Call the school if you haven’t gotten a packet yet.
There will be early dismissal at the school on April 16th and 27th.
Patricia Ann McMillan’s Memorial Service was held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Tuesday, April 10th at 1 PM. Pat, age 66, died in Cloquet on March 28, 2007. She was born in 1940 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and grew up in Cudahy, Wisconsin. She married Steve McMillan in 1974 and he preceded her in death in 1995. So to her children, Deb and Keith Goranson, Dan, Darlene (Robert Coleman) and Don (Keli) Kilpela and Madaline and Jesse Holmes and grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters, we offer our sincere sympathy. Pat was a wonderful volunteer at the Villa Vista during almost the whole time she lived at South View.

Household Hint: Do you have a cell phone that needs charging on a daily basis? If so, you probably have a charger cord plugged in most of the time without the cord plugged to the phone. Have you ever thought that there is live electricity in this cord and if someone, especially a small child should put the cord in their mouth, they would be electrocuted or at least get a bad shock. Please keep these cords unplugged when not in use so no one gets hurt.

Our sympathy to extended to the family of Pat McMillan on her recent death on March 28, 2007. Her Memorial service will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wright at 1 PM on April 10, 2007.
It’s a cloudy, misty, cold Monday morning as I sit down to write the news.
They are predicting a snowstorm for the 3rd, and with that winter will be back, but by the time you read this news, it should be sunny and warmer, I hope! We never know what the weather will be like in spring, but I am so thankful we had our driveway tarred last summer. You can’t believe how nice it is not to have all that mud coming into the house.
On Tuesday, April 10th at NOON, the YOT of Cromwell will hold their Easter/Spring Pot Luck celebration. Bring along a dish to share and come and join us. Remember, if you aren’t already a member, the annual dues are $2 and include lots of fun and socializing! See you there!
The Tamarack Presbyterian Church will be having Easter Services (April 8) at 8 AM instead of their regular time. There will also be a Potluck Breakfast at 7 AM. This way, folks can go to church and then spend their whole day with family for Easter.
The Title I Family night was held at the school on Thursday, March 29th. The kids and their families were treated to sloppy joes, chips and ice cream followed by Jack Pearson, the Song-Strummin’ Storyman. He played music and told stories for about an hour which the kids really enjoyed. After that, the kids and families went up to the art room and learned to do some cartoon drawing. The evening ended with drawings for door prizes and everyone seemed to have a great time. We also want to thank all the Title I workers for setting up this great evening of events. They are Rachel Matuszak, Sandi Gervais, Brenda Korpela, Diane Smith and Principal, Tom Cawcut.
There will be a Benefit Dance and Spaghetti Feed for Matt Vorderbruggen on Sunday, May 6th from 1 – 6 PM at the Lost Isle in Carlton, Mn. Matt lives in Floodwood, MN and has been playing polkas for 55 years. He served in the Korean War as a Paratrooper. Now, Matt has been diagnosed with lung cancer. This benefit is sponsored by Florian Chmielewski, Loren Lindevig, and Tony Jambor. Call 218-372-3616 if you need more information or could help with this benefit.
The Midwest Country Music Theater in Sandstone, Mn is now open again for the spring and summer. This theater is the Gateway to Live Entertainment. It has the best of the Upper Midwest and Nashville Acts. For a schedule, call 320-245-2429 for a schedule of events.
The school kids were back in school on April 2nd and 3rd because they had to make up the Snow Days from March 1st and 2nd. They still have 3 days off, though for Spring Break. School will resume on April 9th. There will be Early Dismissals on April 16th and 27th for teacher workshops.
The Carlton County Retired Educators will be meeting at the Cromwell-Wright School on April 10th at noon. Lunch of Chicken Tenders, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, Salad, and Cherry Crisp will be served. Members and newly retired teachers are encouraged to attend. The program will be put on by the 3 Exchange Students at the school. There will also be the regular business meeting. Our School and community is honored to have Keith Bergstedt as our High School Teacher and Former Football Coach. Mr. Bergstedt will be inducted into the Minnesota Football Hall of Fame on April 21st, 2007 at the St. Louis Park Doubletree Plaza Hotel at 5 PM. Tickets are $28.00 and payable at the door. Call Jeff Gronner at 644-0928 if you want to reserve your seat. We also want to congratulate Keith for this honor.
The 2nd and 3rd graders participated in the 10th Annual Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest. Chelsea Swatek and Erika Kosloski were both 2nd grade Top 30 finalists. Ethan Lind’s story, “The Plant That Cleaned My Room” received Top 10 Honors for 2nd Grade, and Jenna Koenig’s story, “My Allowance Lives Under the Dryer,” was the 1st Place Grand champion for 3rd grade!! There were over 4,800 stories entered in the competition. Fabulous Job Authors!! Keep on Writing!
The 2nd graders collected 719 pounds, that’s 814 items, for the local Food shelf during their Annual March Food Drive.
Kindergarten Round-up will be held at the school on May 2nd so if you have a child that will be 5 years old on or before September 1st they are eligible to start school this fall. If you don’t get a packet from the school, please call to register your child for Round-Up.
Grandparent’s Day will be held at the school on April 26th starting around 1:30 PM.
The PTA will meet on April 9th at 7 PM.
Firearms Safety Classes will begin on Tuesday, April 10th at 6 PM in Mrs. Wester’s room at the school. The cost is $8.50 for the books and handouts from the DNR. Contact Pat Messer if you have any questions.
This year’s Prom will be held on April 21st. The Grand March will be at the school at 4:30 PM. The kids will be going to the Radisson in Duluth for Prom and then to the Duluth YMCA for the Post Prom Party.
Boy and girls ages 9 – 13 are wanted to run for Wrong Days King and Queen. Call Cynthia Bergstedt at 218-590-8155 to sign up. Wrong Days will be held on the weekend of July 20 and 21st.
The next Lion’s Club start-up Meeting will be held at the Country Inn in Cromwell at 9 AM on Saturday the 14th. Everyone welcome to attend.
There will be several young people confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church on Sunday, April 15th at the 10:30 AM service.
The Cromwell Sno-Gophers Snowmobile Club will hold their 24th Annual Bingo on Friday, April 20th at 7 p.m. at the Sno-Gopher clubhouse. Ten free games, Free lunch
On a personal note: I really enjoyed my morning at the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Church in Beaver Township on Hwy 27, on the 1st. I was asked to preach and do the service by Harold Haapoja and he said it wasn’t an “April Fool’s” trick either! We had a good time sharing our faith and music. Both Billy and Harold Haapoja did the music with several special numbers for the folks. Lunch was served after services and Doris was wished a very Happy Birthday. Services are held at the Church on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month at 10:30 AM. Visitors are always welcome to attend.
This week will be very busy with all the Easter Events going on. If you read this before Easter, know that I wish all my readers a Very Blessed Easter. Remember, He died for you and for me!

Household Hint: If your kids clamor for a snack before supper, seize upon the opportunity to get their vegetables down them.
