The Wright / Cromwell News by Jennie K. Hanson July 16, 2007
As part of the Wrong Days in Wright town festival, the Area Clothing Depot of Cromwell-Wright will have a Grand Opening July 21 to celebrate its relocation in newly refurbished quarters in the old Wright School. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the old Wright School with a $1.00 a bag sale. The public is cordially invited and there will be refreshments. The Clothing Depot is in its 15th year of operation and will commemorate that landmark later this year.
Jewell Groth Cole, from Solona Beach, CA, Joyce Groth Hintz, from Madison, Wis., and Larry Hintz from Palatine, ILL. visited Dorothy Groth, Jim and Jane Huhta and the Bud Lehti family. Jewell and Joyce attended their class reunions at the Seasons in Cloquet, Mn.
Vacation Bible School will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wright on July 24, 25, and 26th from 11:30 AM – 2 PM. Call Linda Lehti to pre-register if you can.
St. J’s will also be holding their annual Rummage Sale at the church on Friday, July 20th from 3 – 5 PM and Saturday, from 9 AM– 1 PM with $1.00 a bag sale starting at 11 AM. Donations are also appreciated. Call Linda to donate.
St. J’s had joint services with Our Savior’s in McGregor on July 15th Pastor Koopman attended the LCMS Convention in Houston, TX.
The Tamarack Presbyterian Church will be holding their Summer Pot Luck Picnic and regular service at Shirley and Bob Pearson’s on Sunday, July 29th at the regular 11 AM time. Visitors are also welcome to attend.
Terry Lea Turja, 54, died on July 9, 2007 in Mpls. Terry had had a stroke on Friday and was in a coma. Terry is the daughter of Gene and Zona Turja of Proctor, formerly of Cromwell, MN. Zona and Gene and some of their other daughters were with her when she died. A celebration of her life will be held on July 21, 2007 in Mpls. Terry suffered with health problems all her life and was a very courageous person. She was a member and former head the Minnesota Marfans Association. Marfans is a heredity disease of the connective tissues in the body. How Sad! Keep them all in your prayers! Don Oman’s Step-Mother died recently and her funeral will be on July 23rd. Our Sympathy to Don and Jeanne.
Our sympathy to the family of Dorothy “Dot” Richards who died on July 14, 2007. It seems that our communities have been hit with so many deaths recently. Is it unusual, or are we just getting older and more aware and connected to the folks who are dying?
Several kids are attending Bible Camp this summer. They are Mitch and Valerie Eliason, Jacob and Haylea Hassel, Samantha Suhonen, Allie Cahoon, and Devon and Mandy Egge.
Vacation Bible School will be held at Bethany in Cromwell the week of July 30th – August 3rd, 9 to noon ages 4 years to 6th Grade. Volunteers are also needed.
Arnold and Marcella Dahl will be celebrating their 90th Birthdays at their home on Tamarack Lake at 6646 Tam Acres on Sunday, July 29th from 1 - 3 PM. Everyone is welcome to attend.
I hope you will be able to participate in all of the Wrong Days events this weekend and also many of you will be participating in your Class Reunions. Since this seems to be a short news week, I thought you’d like to read a few teacher jokes. So here they are:
TEACHER: Maria, go to the map and find North America.
MARIA: Here it is.
TEACHER: Correct. Now class, who discovered America?
CLASS: Maria.
TEACHER: John, why are you doing your math multiplication on the floor?
JOHN: You told me to do it without using tables.
TEACHER: Glenn, how do you spell “crocodile?”
GLENN: “K-R-O-K-O-D-I-A-L”
TEACHER: No, that’s wrong.
GLENN: Maybe it is wrong, but you asked me how I spell it.
TEACHER: Donald, what is the chemical formula for water?
DONALD: H I J K L M N O.
TEACHER: What are you talking about?
DONALD: Yesterday you said it’s H to O.
TEACHER: Winnie, name one important thing we have today that we didn’t have ten years ago.
WINNIE: Me!
TEACHER: Glen, why do you always get so dirty?
GLEN: Well, I’m a lot closer to the ground than you are.
TEACHER: Millie, give me a sentence starting with “I.”
MILLIE: I is…
TEACHER: No, Millie..... Always say, “I am.”
MILLIE: All right… “I am the ninth letter of the alphabet.
TEACHER: George Washington not only chopped down his father’s cherry tree, but also admitted it. Now, Louis, do you know why his father didn’t punish him?
LOUIS: Because George still had the ax in his hand.
TEACHER: Now, Simon, tell me frankly, do you say prayers before eating?
SIMON: No sir, I don’t have to, my Mom is a good cook.
TEACHER: Clyde, your composition on “My Dog” is exactly the same as your brother’s. Did you copy his?
CLYDE: No, teacher, it’s the same dog.
TEACHER: Harold, what do you call a person who keeps on talking when people are no longer interested?
HAROLD: A teacher.
That’s all the news from Lake GladtohaveCurtishome and Hello to all the folks who come back for Wrong Days.
