Wright/Cromwell News

Wright/Cromwell News by Jennie K. Hanson April 14, 2008

The sun is back and so are some warmer temperatures.  We sure got a blast of snow and wind last weekend.  Schools were closed all over the county and most of the state.  In one of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Books she tells about the “Sugar Snow”.  This snow prolonged the time that people could tap trees and it also was the consistency of sugar.  So, this must have been our “Sugar Snow!”

Speaking of books, Saturday was “Drop Everything and Read” Day in America, so I stopped everything, called my granddaughter and read her a book over the phone. She sure seemed to enjoy that.

Memphis Ray Goranson was welcomed into the world on April 7, 2008 to Dean and Crystal Goranson.  He also has two older brothers: Jaeger and Wyatt.  His proud grandparents are Keith and Deb Goranson of Wright, Mark and Linda Demenge of McGregor, and Richard and Patty Johnson of Hibbing.  His Great Grandparents are Ramona Goranson of Cloquet, and Pat Peterson and Lillian Polo both of Cromwell.  Nana Deb is spending a week in Cannon Falls to help the whole family and the new arrival.

Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell will be holding their Annual Rummage and Bake Sale on Friday, April 25th and Rummage Sale only on Saturday April 26th.

Friends of Animals in Carlton County will be holding their Annual Rummage Sale at the Cloquet Armory on Saturday, April 26th

The Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wright will be holding a Baked Chicken Dinner on Friday, April 25th from 4 – 7 PM.  This will be a Thrivent Branch 31299 matching funds event.  You can come to the dinner and then head up to the Tamarack Church of Christ for their movie night.

They are having a movie night.  “The Wager” is a feature length Christian film starring Randy Travis, Nancy Stafford and Jude Ciccolella.  Join them for good, clean family entertainment.

Michael Steel (Randy Travis) is ten days from the biggest night of his life… Walking the red carpet as a Best Actor nominee. Just when it seems that he has overcome industry blacklisting and persecution for his beliefs, Michael finds himself fighting for his life in a supernatural wager between God and Satan. THE WAGER unfolds as Satan tests Michael’s faith by destroying his reputation, marriage and career. Michael seeks refuge with his sister Annie (Nancy Stafford, “Matlock") while his manager Kenny (Jude Ciccolella, “24") fights to save the falling star. Confronted with temptations by his seductive co-star, Cassandra (Candace Cameron Bure, “Full House") and scandalous deceptions by reporter Peter Barrett (Doug Jones, “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer"), Michael is faced with the most important choice of his life. Is Michael strong enough to live the truth no matter the consequences?”

Premier Night: April 25th at 7:00PM and 9:00PM, Following Shows: April 26th and 27th at 7:00PM only. There is no charge for this Movie Night but a free will gift would be appreciated.  Length: 1hr. 22mins. Seating is first-come-first-serve (limited to 100 per showing).

Lynn Amundson Groth passed away at the age of 70 on April 1, 2008, after a five-week hospital stay at St. Joseph’s in St. Paul.  During an angiogram and insertion of a second stint, he had a major heart attack right in the lab that required a triple by-pass.  That surgery healed just fine, but during the healing time, his kidneys shut down so dialysis was required three times a week. In addition, he had surgery for a blood clot and for two subdural hematomas, the latter of which were suffered from falling out of bed at two different hospitals.  Finally, his kidneys would no longer endure the dialysis so it had to be given up, and thus he was taken off life support.  Lynn was cremated and the Memorial Service was held in the chapel at his church, Living Word Christian Center, in Brooklyn Park, with around 106 people attending.  In addition to his sister Barbara Hart, and her children, David, Julie, Jodie, Chuck, and their families, others attending were Dick Billmeier, Arnold Dahl, Roger Harp, Bub Stenson, Marvin Aho, Ray and Eddie Pettit, Phyllis Parviainen, Gary Wells, Carol Korpela Wells, Karen Sarvela, and several others.

His wife Mary Ann spoke, as did his daughter NaCole, two of Mary Ann’s children, his step-daughter Jolene Forsberg, sharing humorous and heartfelt memories of Lynn.  Following the service, a three-course meal was served, including a dessert bar.

NaCole is presently residing with her husband Mark Schutz and daughter Grace in Brooklyn Park.  She is employed at Hennepin County Medical Center in the Pharmacy Department, and we are told that Mary Ann was so thankful for having NaCole at her dad’s side that whole month, along with her, in order to interpret the various drugs and procedures administered to her dad.

Both Mary Ann and NaCole would like to sincerely thank the friends who attended the service, as well as the many who sent cards and memorials.  All were so appreciated by the family.

Lynn Amundson Groth, age 70, was born in Cloquet, MN at the Raiter Hospital on June 18, 1937, to Grace and Oscar Groth of Wright, MN.  He grew up there, along with his older sister Barbara.  He then attended high school in Cromwell, MN and graduated from there in 1955.  He then went on to train as an apprentice in brick-laying with Older Construction of Duluth. Having spent many years at bricklaying, he operated his business as Masonry Plus.

After a short marriage to Jerlene Lehti, Lynn was divorced and then married Susan Floe who had three children from a previous marriage: Jolene Forsberg and Lavon Becker, both of whom are married and reside with their families in Hanover, MN and their brother Billy.  To that union was born their one daughter, NaCole.  NaCole resides with her husband Mark and their daughter Grace in Brooklyn Center, MN.  Grace has always been the apple of her Grandpa’s eye, and NaCole has always been her dad’s “Rock”.

In 1990 Lynn met his present wife, Mary Ann.  They were married in 1992, at which time they also both became members of Living Word Christian Center where both have been active since.  After five weeks of illness as a result of many surgeries, Lynn went to meet the Lord on April 1, 2008.

In addition to Mary Ann, NaCole, Mark, and Grace, Lynn leaves to mourn his step-children David Viksna of Willow River, Joseph Mulford and his wife, Arlette of Los Angeles, CA, Marjorie and her husband Olly and grandchildren Elizabeth, Taj, and Noah, of Afton and his granddaughter Morgan, daughter of Samuel who passed away seven years ago.  Lynn also leaves to mourn his sister Barbara Hart who just recently lost her husband Russ, as well as many nieces and nephews & friends.

Lynn would probably conclude this obituary by asking you this question:  “How is YOUR walk with the Lord?”

The Annual Cromwell-Wright Memorial Luminary Celebration scheduled for December will have a planning team meeting on April 22, 7:00 p.m. at the Cromwell Pavilion.  All are welcome.  Stay tuned for more details.

Get Well wishes go out to Carl Neubauer after he underwent major Heart surgery at St. Mary’s in Duluth.

Dennis Cieluch is the currant chairman of Wrong Days in Wright.  He has done a sometimes thankless and always outstanding job for over 10 years.  Doing a variety of jobs, from organizing to clean up and many duties in between.  As a community, we need to pull together to keep this special event going.  Please, please try to attend the meetings at the Fire Hall on April 29th, May 27th, June 10th, July 1st, and July 15th at 7 PM.  We need new bodies to help, and new ideas are always welcome, too.

I got a request for information on the Lowe Family. Michael Lowe stopped in the Post Office in Wright and was wondering if anyone knew anything about the history of his family.  If you do, please call me as I have his phone # and email address. Thanks!

The Annual Lake Country Power Meeting will take place on Saturday, April 19th at the Lincoln Elementary School in Hibbing, Mn starting at 9 AM for Breakfast and 10 AM Meeting.  Directors will be elected in districts 3,6, and 7.  We are in Dist. 8.

Don’t forget the Senior Dance at the Cromwell Pavilion on Thursday, April 24, at 1 – 4 PM.

I’ve been doing a lot of subbing lately and thought I’d end the news with a limerick I wrote about teaching, so here it is: I came to school to teach, But sometimes I like to preach, I tell the kids to be good, And do their work like they should, And some kids I’m able to reach!

That’s all the news from Lake Twentyfivedaysleftofschool and Hello to all of Lynn’s family and friends.

Wright – Cromwell News

Wright – Cromwell News by Jennie K. Hanson April 7, 2008

The news this week will be pretty short as I just got called to sub in Cromwell and that means I only have about one hour to get this done.  I usually take at least two to three hours on Mondays to type, edit, proof read, and email this news to the area newspapers.  But, I will do what I can.

Lake Country Power will be holding their Annual Meeting on April 19th at the Lincoln Elementary School in Hibbing (11th Ave. and 23rd St).  Member registration and breakfast begins at 9 AM with the business meeting starting at 10:00 AM.

The Cromwell-Wright School will be holding Prom, “We Belong together” on Saturday, April 12th.  The Grand March will begin at the school at 5:15 PM at the school and coach buses will depart for The Lakeview Castle in Duluth at 5:45 PM.  Attendees will arrive at Lakeview Castle at 7 PM for the dinner and dance and then go to the Duluth YMCA at 11 PM and will stay there for the Post Prom until 2:30 AM.  Busses should arrive back at the school at 3:15 AM.

A very special event is being planned for Sunday, April 27th at Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell.  The Gates Family will be in concert at the regular 10:30 AM service.  There will also be the Baptism of Adan Luna, son of Angie and Eddie that day.

Bethany will also be holding their annual Rummage and Bake Sale on Friday April 25th and Saturday, the 26th.

Bethlehem Lutheran in Wright will be holding a Roast Chicken Dinner at the church on Friday, April 25th from 4:30 – 7 PM.  This will be a Thrivent Post 31299 Matching funds Event.

Don’t forget to attend the MN Sustainable Farmer Emeritus Award Presentation to Ken Peterson at Bethlehem Lutheran in Wright from 1 – 3 PM.  On Wednesday, April 16th.

With all the snow we’ve had I wonder if the Baseball/Softball season will get started.  Most games have been cancelled or postponed so far.

The Cromwell Sno-Gophers 25th Annual BINGO will be held on Friday, April 18th at the Sno-Gopher’s Club House in Cromwell at 7 PM.  This will also include 10 FREE games and FREE lunch, and they say there is NO FREE LUNCH!  Well, they would be wrong in this case.

There’s not much news this week and that may be a good thing, so as the condemned man said as he walked to the gallows, “No noose is good noose”!

That’s all the news from Lake Lessthanfortydaysofschoolleftnow and Hello to the family of Lauri Hemmila ( George’s last sibling) who passed away last week.  Thanks for being faithful readers of this column!
