Some of you may have read that Kathleen Entner is not going to be writing the Cromwell News anymore, so she has asked me to take over writing for both communities.  I am happy to do this, but will need your help in getting the “Cromwell Area News.” Please let me know of anything you want put in the paper by Sunday night or Monday mornings.  Thanks.

Lacy Lundin, a 2006 Graduate of Cromwell High School received her Diploma in Massage Therapy from Lake Superior College on May 21, 2007.  Lacy had a 4.0 GPA.

The June Meeting of the Cromwell-Wright American Legion Auxiliary will be held on Monday, June 11 at 1:30 p.m. in the Villa Vista Dining Center. This is an absolutely incredible interview with Rick Warren , “Purpose Driven Life “ author and pastor of Saddleback Church in California . His wife now has cancer, and he now has “wealth” from the book sales. The St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wright will be holding their Annual Ham Dinner on June 29th 4 – 7 PM.  Everyone is welcome to attend. This is always a wonderful community event and is usually well attended.

Aine Tamminen Merrill had the misfortune of falling and breaking her leg recently.  She is home recuperating in Wisconsin.

The Carlton County Retired Educators will be holding their next meeting at Gampers in Moose Lake on Tuesday, June 12th starting at 11:30 AM.  A delicious meal of Swedish Meatballs will be served and the speakers will be speaking on “Home Schooling”.  They will also be signing up for hours at the Little Red School House at the fair.

The Lakeside Community Club will be holding a Rummage and Bake Sale on Saturday, June 16 from 9 am to 4 pm at the clubhouse.  Raffle tickets will also be available.

Carlton County is now “SMOKE FREE”!  I wonder how it will affect area businesses?  There’s always advantages and disadvantages to every decision like this one and it has been interesting reading the letters to the editors, etc.

There are kids out selling Wrong Days Buttons now.  They are also available at the area stores.

Angie (Dahlman) and Eddie Luna are proud to announce the birth of their 2nd child, a son, on May 30, 2007 in Denver, Colorado.  Little Adan (Pronounced Aiden) Ricardo Luna weighted in at 8 lb, 4 oz and was 19 and ¾ inches long. His grandparents are Mark and Linda Dahlman from Wright.

There will be an Ice Cream Social at the Villa Vista on June 27th from 1 – 3 PM.  Music by Richard Olson.  Family and friends are encouraged to attend. You will also be given an up-date on the up-coming building project.

Are you a Finn?  Would you like to be a Finn?  Even if you’re not a Finn, plan to attend the Mid Summer Evening with the Finn Hall Band on June 16th, 2007 from 6:30 – 10:00 PM at the Cromwell Park Pavilion.  Admission is $7.00 and coffee table will be available all evening.  This event is sponsored by Duane and Shirley Maki, Anita and Floyd Bertelsen, Myrna and Bob Ulland, Adelia and Seppo Lipponen, Paavo Sinkkonen and Casey Ladd, and Nancy and Dale Sauer.

Thanks to Thomas Miller (He lives in the old Bethany church) and his family and friends, the school out buildings have been scraped and painted.  This was Tom’s Eagle Scout Project and we all thank him for getting the project done.  Looks great, Tom!

We are again looking for the Carlton County Outstanding Senior Citizens. Please call Madelyn Adelsgruber if you would like to nominate someone.

There will be a Teen Dance at the Big Top in Wright on June 15th from 8 – 12 PM.  Music by Sam Clark.

The Cromwell Harvest Fest will be holding a Steak Fry on June 15th from 4:40 to 7 PM.

Gerald Carl “Jerry” Mattson was laid to rest on May 30, 2007 in the Eagle Lake Cemetery.  Over 300 people attended his funeral on May 30th at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell, MN.  Special music was provided by Bill Bastian and Elizabeth Sinisalo.  The 3 selections that Mr. Bastion sang were “On Eagles Wings”, “Ava Maria”, and “The Lord’s Prayer”.  Pastor Janeva Stromberg gave a wonderful message and the ladies served a delicious lunch. Jerry will be fondly missed by his wife Karen and their children, Shari and Steve Hutar, John and Jill Mattson, Joe and Sarah Mattson and Jim Mattson, and his dear grand children, Ryan, Jared, Rachel, Annikka, Maija, and Wyatt.  Also missing him will be his sisters, Jane Lindgren, Shirley and Floyd Carlson, and Betty and Larry Isaacson and many other friends and relatives.  Jerry loved hunting and fishing and I’m sure his last conversations on this earth were about those very same subjects.  We will all miss you, Jerry.  You were a big part of this community and your family!
