Well, it happened!  I voted already!  That is kind of unfair you may say, but the folks in Beseman Township got their Presidential ballots in the mail last week and we had the opportunity to vote early, but NOT often as is sometimes said.  Of course, those votes will not be counted until Election Day on November 4th, but it is great to have the ballot ahead of time so we can really make good choices and not have time constraints hampering our decisions at the polls.  I haven’t missed voting in a Presidential election since I was old enough to vote.  Oh, yes, that was back in the 1900’s.  So I guess I have voted for the past 10 or 11 presidents.  And speaking of that, I got a call the other day and the person was wondering about Presidential succession, so I went to the computer and found out some interesting information.  Here it is:

Just thought this information would be of interest to others, too.  Since Carlos Gutierrez and Elaine Chao are not natural born citizens, they cannot become president, so that is why there is no number before their names.

So, I’d like to encourage everyone to exercise their right to vote on November 4th and remember that there are some local elections to think about, too, such as school board, etc.

Travan Timothy Tagaloa, Jr. was born on Friday, October 10, 2008 to Miranda Byer of Cromwell and Travan Tagaloa, who is stationed in Connecticut with the Navy.  He weighed 7#, 6oz and was 20 inches long.  His Grandparents are Dean and Carrie Byer of Cromwell and Vickie and Robert McIntire of Litchfield.  Proud auntie and uncle are Mirissa and Dustin Byer of Cromwell.  Great-grandparents are John and Joyce Manninen of Wright, Marlys McIntire of Wadena, Carol and Dave Nunn, Richard and Dorothy Byer, and Great-Great-Grandpa, Arnold Manninen of Wright.

Our hearts are heavy as we say a fond farewell to Kenny Peterson, 79, who died peacefully at the Villa Vista in Cromwell, MN on October 16, 2008.  Kenny had been a long time World Hungar activist, member of the DFL Party and Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wright.  His funeral was held at Bethany Lutheran church in Cromwell, Mn on Sunday, October 19, 2008 with over 250 people in attendance.  So, to his four surviving daughters, Debra, Sandy, Lynn and Lori, their spouses, children and grandchildren we offer our sincere sympathy.  Kenny was a one of a kind guy and his presence will be deeply missed in the family, community, the state, the nation and the world.

Henry Oja, 82, died in his home on October 15, 2008 with his family by his side.  Henry was a long time resident of Wright, MN and was raised on a farm near Tamarack, Mn by his parents, Albert and Amanda Oja.  His wife Maxine died several years ago, but Henry kept up his golfing, walking and general active life since retiring from Diamond Match in 1987.  So, to his sons, Warren (Ava) of Conroe, Texas, Ronald of Wright, and Gary (Lisa) of De Moines, Iowa and daughter Karol (George) Wolf of Mesa, Arizona, their spouses and children, and his brother Carl of Middletown, California, we offer our sincere sympathy.  Henry gave a lot back to this community and will be missed by all who knew him.  His memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 26th at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wright, MN with visitation from 1 PM to 2 PM.

The United Methodist Church of Cromwell will be hosting a Ham Supper on Friday, November 14, beginning at 4:30 at the Cromwell Park Pavilion.  You are all invited to come and bring your appetites!!  Mark your calendars now; we hope you can come join us.

Eagle Township Residents are planning to host a picnic to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the reorganization of Eagle Township during the summer of 2009.  They need residents to help in the planning of this event.  If you are interested, please contact Carmen Martin at 644-3917.  Thanks!

The Bethany Holiday Bazaar is being planned for Saturday November 29th in Cromwell.  Plan to come and spend a relaxing and fun afternoon with them after a hectic day of shopping at the Mall on Friday.  More details at a later date, but mark your calendars now!!

The last YOT Dance of the season will be held on Thursday, October 23rd at the Cromwell Park Pavilion from 1 – 4 PM with the Fat Dutchman providing the music.  These dances are always well attended. 

There will be a Benefit Dinner at Bethany Lutheran for the family of Angel Holm.  Angel recently passed away and she is survived by her husband and 3 young sons.  The dinner is planned for Friday, November 7th from 3 – 7 PM and volunteers are needed.  Please call Joey Anderson at 644-3786 if you can help out.

The Cromwell Community Craft Sale will be on Saturday, November 8th from 9 AM – 2 PM at the Cromwell School Gym.  Reserve your space today by calling Pauline at 644-3713 or Peggy at 644-3746.

And with that craft sale in mind, Melody Swenson, Author of Champions of Carlton County, will be there selling her books about the championship teams in Carlton County.  She has wanted to be at the 20th Anniversary of the 1988 Football team event, but will be at the craft sale instead.  This book is available at the school library if you want to take a peek at it, but if you have any connection to championship teams in the area, you will certainly enjoy this book.

There will be a Mojakka Stew Supper at Lakeside Club House on Saturday, November 8th starting at 5 PM.  This is the main fund raising event for the school so, please, try to attend this old fashioned supper.  Volunteers to help are also welcome.  Just call Margaret Webster or Shirley Walli to see what you can do to help. 

“BINGO” will he heard at the Wright Senior Citizen building on Saturday October 25th starting at 7 PM.  Come and join the fun!

A big Thank You goes out to Julie Houck as she was the guest speaker at Bethlehem and Bethany Churches in the absence of Pastor Janeva on October 19th.  She talked on the importance of reading the Bible every day and left a challenge to read Romans 12 and 1st Corinthians 15 this coming week.  Always good advice to read the Bible.
