Our community was again shocked and deeply saddened by the unexpected tragic death of Eugene Dale Richards, 43, in a logging accident on Wednesday, October 22, 2008. His funeral was held at Bethany Lutheran church on Monday, October 27, 2008 with Pastor Janeva Stromberg Officiating.  More details next week, but our sincere sympathy to Eugene’s family and friends.  His special talents and smile will never be replaced in our hearts!

Don’t forget to turn your clocks back on Saturday night November 1st before you go to bed.  This will give you an extra hour of sleep on Sunday morning so if you forget, you will arrive at church an hour early!

The members of Bethlehem and Bethany Lutheran will meet the new pastor candidate on Sunday, November 2nd at the regular services.  Pastor Brandi Hacker and her father will be in attendance and those interested are welcome to attend and meet and greet her.

Lindsay Lally, Carolyn Krogh and Jennie Hanson spent some time visiting at Arnold and Marcella Dahl’s on Friday, October 24th.  Lindsay brought bars, Arnold poured and they had a great visit.

The Harvest Fest Volunteers were honored at a dinner at the pavilion on Sunday, October 26th.  It takes a lot of volunteers to make Cromwell’s Harvest Fest a success and this was a great way to thank them.  It was a cold and kind of dreary day outside, but there were bright and up-beat conversations inside.  Thanks to B and B for catering the meal!  Delicious!!

Did you know that in order to have your child’s photo published in the yearbook at school parents have to give signed permission?  Well, there are many kids who haven’t gotten that permission yet, so please check the latest bus bulletin to see if your name is on the list.

Picture Retake day is on November 11th at school and this is also Activities Picture Day, too.  Pre-school and staff will start at 8 AM, followed by students and activities.

There will be NO SCHOOL on Monday, November 10th.  Enjoy an extra day of deer hunting!

The Area Clothing Depot will be having a sweater give-away for the entire month of November.  Two sweaters per person per visit.

The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church will be holding their annual TURKEY BINGO on Saturday, November 15th from 6 – 8 PM.  Lunch will also be served.

The Book Mobile will be in Wright from 1:15 – 1:45 PM on October 28, November 18, and December 9 and 30.  Stop in and pick up a book or video.

On Friday, November 14, The Cromwell United Methodist Church would like to invite you to come to a Ham Dinner at the Pavilion.  Ham, Mashed Potatoes, Vegetables, Buns and Deserts will be served.  Dinner starts at 4:30.  Hope to see you there!!

The Cardinal Quilters Guild of Cromwell had their annual fall retreat, Oct 24 & 25 with 25 in attendance.  The choir of sewing machines in action was accompanied by friendships, creative ideas, brainstorming and of course, laughter.

What kind of help is there for older people in long term situations to ensure their safety and good treatment?  Well, come to hear Virda Hill, who has the position of Ombudsman, tell about her role in advocating for Seniors in nursing homes, assisted living and home care at a meeting in the Wright Senior Center on Wednesday, November 5, at 1 p.m. The public is invited.

Eagle Township Residents are planning to host a picnic to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the reorganization of Eagle Township during the summer of 2009.  They need residents to help in the planning of this event.  If you are interested, please contact Carmen Martin at 644-3917.  Thanks!

The Bethany Holiday Bazaar is being planned for Saturday November 29th in Cromwell.  Plan to come and spend a relaxing and fun afternoon with them after a hectic day of shopping at the Mall on Friday.  More details at a later date, but mark your calendars now!!

There will be a Benefit Dinner at Bethany Lutheran for the family of Angel Holm.  Angel recently passed away and she is survived by her husband and 3 young sons.  The dinner is planned for Friday, November 7th from 3 – 7 PM and volunteers are needed.  Please call Joey Anderson at 644-3786 if you can help out.

The Cromwell Community Craft Sale will be on Saturday, November 8th from 9 AM – 2 PM at the Cromwell School Gym.  Reserve your space today by calling Pauline at 644-3713 or Peggy at 644-3746.
And with that craft sale in mind, Melody Swenson, Author of Champions of Carlton County, will be there selling her books about the championship teams in Carlton County.  This book is available at the school library if you want to take a peek at it.

There will be a Mojakka Stew Supper at Lakeside Club House on Saturday, November 8th starting at 4:30 – 7 PM.  This is the main fund raising event for the school, so please try to attend this old fashioned supper.  Volunteers to help are also welcome.  Just call Margaret Webster or Shirley Walli to see what you can do to help.

My sister, Margaret Dahlman Taylor and her daughter Tami Depre had the opportunity to meet and attend the Nicky Cruz Rally in Duluth last week, October 17th.  For those of you who are not familiar with Nicky Cruz, here is some interesting information about him.

The Nicky Cruz’ Rally was titled “50 Years of Freedom” Rally Night, at Denfeld High School Auditorium, October 19,2008.

In 1958 the Rev. David Wilkerson, a young country preacher was pastoring a church in Eastern Pennsylvania.  One February afternoon, Wilkerson read an article in LIFE magazine about seven teenage gang members who were in trial for murder.  Nicky Cruz was one of those young men.

During a gang fight in Manhattan, these teens beat a young man to death.  Troubled by what he read in the article, and sensing God wanted him to do something for the teens.  Wilkerson made a trip from his home town in Philipsburg, PA to the urban area of New York City.

Wilkerson was forever impacted by the hopelessness, despair and destruction of the young people on the streets to drugs, killing and dying without knowing Jesus.

The books:  “The Cross and the Switchblade” and “Run Baby Run” details the story of Nicky Cruz and his encounter with God. The Cross is Still Mightier than the Switchblade.

Tami writes about the experience of meeting Nicky Cruz in person:  “Mom, was so excited to have the opportunity to meet Nicky in person.  She said, as a young farm girl, Nicky’s message and life story made such an impact on her that even today, she feels the powerful message of how God saved his life.  Margaret visited New York City in 1956, when Nicky was going through his troubling life on the streets and met Rev. David Wilkerson.  Even though she did not actually meet or know him then, she felt a very strong personal connection when she learned about Nicky’s life story, the bad gang member, was introduced to his mission to start Teen Challenge and read the book by David Wilkerson, “The Cross and the Switchblade”.  Nicky has written his own book “Run Baby Run” and has a DVD with the same name.  Nicky spoke to the packed Denfeld Auditorium for one and a half hours, which felt like 5 minutes.  He was totally captivating telling and sharing his life experiences and trials and tribulations.  Even though 50 years have passed, his passion for the message was as strong as if it happened just yesterday.”

MN Teen Challenge Northland, (Duluth) is a men’s only, adult male facility—they do not have the funding to include teens as of yet.  MN Teen Challenge has a facility for teens in Minneapolis, though.  An Adult Woman’s facility is next on their agenda for Duluth, but they need to raise funds to support it.  It costs about $1200.00 a month to host an individual and there is no government funding.

Margaret even appeared on Brad Bennett’s WDSM radio show as a sponsor for the Nicky Cruz Rally.
