Wright Cromwell News by Jennie K. Hanson November 3, 2008

Our sympathy to the family of Lempi E. (Korpi) Thompson, 81, who died on, Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008 in Villa Vista Care Center, Cromwell.  Her Funeral Service was held in Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, Moose Lake on Saturday, November 1, 2008 with Pastor Hal Kamppi officiating.  Interment is at West Branch Cemetery, Kalevala Township.

Lempi was one of my favorite residents at the Villa Vista.  She always had a kind smile and seemed to enjoy the programs I did for all the residents.  I could even get her to yodel once in a while in her early years at the Villa.  She will be missed by the Villa residents, staff and her family and friends.  Rest in Peace, Lempi.  I will miss you!

There was a completely packed church (standing room only) for Eugene Richard’s Funeral on Monday, the 27th.  I think many didn’t even make it into the church, either.  This was probably the biggest funeral Cromwell has seen in several years.  This goes to show what a great guy Eugene and his family are.  It is also ironic that he is the first person buried in the expanded section of Forest Hill Cemetery as he was one of the guys that helped clear the land and make it into a cemetery area.

Eugene died at the young age 43 and will be deeply missed by his wife, Denise; daughter, Tammi; step-son, Lucas and Jennifer; granddaughter, Elexis Anderson; parents, Wayne and Karen Richards; brothers, Keith, Les and Jerri Haugan, John and Cindye; sister Irene and Charles Carlson and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.  His funeral was held at Bethany Lutheran church on October 27, 2008.  His Pallbearers were Keith, Les, and John Richards, Charlie Carlson, Jeff Bulson, Lucas Anderson and Darin Jerikowsky.  Honorary Pallbearers were Brett Lucking, Milo Cliff, Dan Richards and Randy Heikkila.  Again, our sincere sympathy to this grieving family.  May the memories you have of Eugene keep you smiling forever.

The Bethlehem Women of the ELCA are planning a World Hunger Dinner in memory of Kenny Peterson.  It will be in early December, but no definite decision has been made yet.  They will decide at the next meeting on November 5th at the church at 7 PM.  This could also include Food Shelf Donations.

Brandi Hacker is the candidate of choice for pastor at Bethlehem and Bethany Lutheran churches and her approval will be voted on, on November 16th.  If she accepts, she could be here as soon as the first of the year.  Pray for her and these congregations as they begin a new ministry with a new pastor.

We will deeply miss Pastor Janeva Stromberg as she moves on to new endeavors.  She has certainly been a blessing to our churches and the community as a whole.  No one could have been in a better place at a better time for us than she has been.  Please know that we appreciate all she has done for us and keep her in your prayers as she moves on in her life.  She has not left yet, though, so she will be around for awhile.

The Cardinal Quilt Guild celebrated the second anniversary of their organization in October.  The club meets the first Monday of every month at 6 p.m. at the pavilion in Cromwell for a short business meeting followed by demonstrations, projects, open sewing, and/or other activities.  The club hosted its third two-day retreat this month for members and other friends.  If there are any quilters out there, beginners or those who are already passionate about this type of sewing who might enjoy the fellowship of others in the craft, you are welcome to visit and possibly join us.  If you have any questions about our calendar or activities, you can call Deb Templeton (644-0985), BJ Wilson (644-3669), or Dawn Lippo (644-3638).  We have a great time sharing our interest in quilting.

There will be a TOPS informational meeting at Bethany Lutheran in Cromwell on Thursday, November 6th at 7:30 pm.  Won’t you join us and see what Take Off Pounds Sensibly is all about?  We will laugh (a lot) while supporting each other during our weight loss.  The plan is to have guest speakers occassionally to give us tips on health and wellness.  Hmmmm...what should we call our chapter?  Plan to come with your ideas. Sounds like fun to me!  Everyone is welcome to join.  Any questions, call Dee at 644-3454 or Carmen at 644-3917.  If this notice is too late to go to the first meeting, please call Dee or Carmen for future meetings or events.

The Area Clothing Depot is having their annual Sweater Give-away during the whole month of November.  Two sweaters per customer per visit.

The Clothing Etc. is also open in their new location on Main Street in Floodwood, too.  I stopped in there last week and had a look around.  They don’t have a lot more space, but they do have a bathroom and running water.  I think they are open Thursday, Friday and Saturdays.

Don’t forget to go to the Craft sale at the Cromwell School on Saturday the 8th.

The Cromwell-Wright Dollars for Scholars are again asking for donations to their scholarship program.  All donations are tax deductible.  If you have lost a loved one and wish to make a special donation, or want to donate any amount, please contact Kay Smith at 644-3908.  Did you know that DFS has provided over $81,000 to our students over the past years?  What a tribute to our area.

Be Safe during this year’s hunting season.  You can never be too careful in the woods with a rifle.  Young people need to take special precautions with hunting as Buck Fever can effect them a lot.  It was 18 years ago, 1990 that our son, Garrie was accidentally shot during hunting season.  Fortunately he lived, but it could have been very tragic.  So Stay well and Stay Safe!!

That’s all the news from Lake Saluteaveteranthisweek and Hello to all our area Veterans!
