Wright News by Jennie K. Hanson June 23, 2005

Last Tuesday, June 22nd, we saw the most beautiful Full Moon rising over the southeastern sky.  It was farther south than I can ever remember and it also was on the first day of summer.  The moon was a huge ball of golden orange color, like the one you see in the fall at harvest moon time. I wonder how often the first day of summer and a full moon happen on the same day?  I hope it is a sign of good things to come.

Wrong Days will again be happening on July 15th - 17th.  This will be the 40th Annual, so please try to let everyone know and attend.  There will be ALL the regular events and also there will be a special contest for the person or group that has the most memorabilia from all the past Wrong Days. So, start finding all the old tee shirts, buttons, posters, photos of the parades, etc. and get them in display form for Saturday at the Big Top.

The class of 1956 (Alice Lake’s) has asked to set up a booth for the planning of next year’s 50th Class Reunion.  Please stop by their booth at 1 PM on Saturday so they can start planning.  The Class of 1955 and 1957 are also welcome to stop by.

There will be a Tractor Pull on Friday night at Wrong Days for kids under 12 years of age.  Parents need to be there for the kids to participate in this fun event.  Trophies are given out to the 1st and 2nd Place winners in each age group and every child gets a free can of pop for participating.

Beseman Township will be celebrating their 100th Anniversary on July 17th at the Big Top in Wright from 1-4PM.  Please try to let everyone know who ever lived in Beseman and also other guests are welcome to attend.  The township will provide the food.  Bring your pictures, stories and family histories if you have any.  It should be a great get together!  I think Vera Suhonen is the oldest living life long resident of the township, so she is to be honored at the picnic.

Several area folks went to the Domino Center in Duluth to serve lunch on Friday, June 17th.

The 4th Annual Spelling Bee was held at the Villa Vista on June 15th, 2005. And for the 3rd year in a row, Betty Johnson, formerly of Wright, was the winner.  Her winning word was “H-o-n-o-l-u-l-u”.  2nd place went to Ann Vorderbruggen and 3rd place to Gladys Clark.  There were several guys that also were very respectable spellers.  Those others who participated were Bob, Wanda, Nancy, John, Francis, Eddie, Lillian, Esther, Hulda, Sonja, and Lempi.  Thank you all for being such good sports and participating.

The Wright Fire Department will be celebrating their 50th Anniversary on Saturday, July 2nd.  Come to the Fire Hall that day to see the new fire truck and the various displays they will have set up.

Our sympathy to the family of Ronald Vernon Lehti, age 68 years, 362 days, who passed away on June 16, 2005.  Ron is a former graduate of Cromwell High School and passed away in Blaine, Minnesota at his home.  Ron is survived by his wife Patricia, daughters, Debra (Peter) Eskierka, and Shari (Dennis) Buster, 6 grand children, one great granddaughter, sister, Jerlene Artz and brother, Bud (Linda) Lehti.  Ron’s funeral was held on June 17, 2005 with Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Casket Bearers from our area were Scott and Jamie Lehti.

My grand kids have been attending Vacation Bible School at Hope Lutheran in Floodwood this week, June 20 - 24th.  It seems that there isn’t going to be Bible School in Cromwell until the 2nd week in August, so I thought I’d bring them to Floodwood.  There are at least 60 kids in VBS this year with a great number of adults and helpers to keep these very active kids learning about the Lord.

Jeremy and Mindy Hoover and little sister Emma have a new baby boy in the family.  He was named Levi Allan.

That’s all the news for this week from Lake Getting hotterandhotter and Hello to new baby Levi and his wonderful family.
