Wright News by Jennie K. Hanson 357-2385 April 28, 2005
As I sit down to write this week’s news, there are only 23 days left of school and by the time you read this, there will only be 18 or 19 days left. Things are winding down at school, but there are still many things to get accomplished. School gets out on June 1st with May 30th off for Memorial Day.
Kindergarten Round up was held on April 27th with about 20 children enrolled for next year’s class.
As a regular volunteer at the Villa Vista, I was pleased to get an invitation to their annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast to be held at the Villa on Tuesday, May 10th at 9 AM. I am always amazed at all the area folks who volunteer at the Villa and the staff and residents sure appreciate everyone who comes there.
I also got a copy of a letter from Sheryle Benson to the Villa Vista. She is from Merrillville, Indiana and reads the Cromwell, Wright, and Villa Vista News in our local newspapers. She writes that she is a former resident of Carlton County. She faithfully follows the area news and has a great interest in the Villa Vista News. She applauds them for keeping the residents involved in the community and for the great respect the staff has for them also. Sheryle has also been in contact with Judy Koivisto and her interest in preserving the history of the Cromwell area. If you ever get to Cromwell, call me up and we’ll chat about our area’s history.
There have been a lot of rumors flying around about the Villa Vista. Ray Lally reports that the Villa is NOT closing. But there will be some changes though. New partners will be buying into the Villa Vista and they will be helping to do some needed remodeling. They have lots of ideas, although they aren’t exactly sure what they will be doing yet. Options would include changing a wing to Assisted Living plus which would be at a higher level of services then you see at most other Assisted Living Facilities, or converting some beds to Medicare. They have NO plans to move any residents. They would continue to staff nurses 24 hours a day, just as they do now. If you have any questions, just ask Ray. He plans to keep the residents, staff and community informed.
I received a newsletter from Northland Funeral Home and they have planned a trip to the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre on Wednesday, June 22. The bus leaves Cloquet at 8 AM and gets back around 6 PM. The play is “Nunsensations-the Nunsense Vegas Revue.” Just call the Funeral Home at 1-888-879-0951 to sign up.
Congratulations to Arvin Anderson who recently was honored at a Retirement Party at the home of Mark and Ellen Switzer.
The city of Wright has received a check for $468,000 for the Small Cities Development Program Grant. The monies will be used to put in city water and sewer I think.
Dorothy Groth, Sara and Elisabeth Kachinski attended the LWML Rally at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Cloquet. The speaker was Rev. Mark Peske, Pastor to Ojibwe Nation in the Cass Lake Area. Pastor Don Love had opening devotions and led Our Redeemer preschoolers in song. Our Redeemer LWML had a skit about mites. Rev. Dennis Schutte led closing devotions.
The Bible Study titled “Odyssey of St. Paul,” the life and times of servant of the word and missionary of the early Christian Church will start at St. John’s at 7 PM on Thursday April 28th. It will continue on Thursdays thereafter.
The Quarterly Meeting was held at St. John’s with a potluck lunch served after.
The Mary and Martha Society met at Ramona Goranson’s in Cloquet. Pastor Koopman led the Bible Study.
Nicole Suhonen writes, “Believe it or not, I have finally made it to Orlando! Within 10 or so days after I sent out my last letter, God provided the rest of the support in truly amazing ways! I jumped from 85% to 100% in a matter of 4 days! I still can’t believe that I am finally here. I am very much in awe of how God used each of you in one way or another to bring in the resources I needed to come to work in Panama City Beach, Florida for a year. Nicole is part of the Campus Crusade and will be using your support to reach the students in area colleges in Florida and or Colorado.
My mom, Katharine Dahlman died a year ago on April 30th. She is still a big influence on my life and to those who knew her. When talking to a friend recently, I shared one of mom’s favorite sayings. “And this to shall pass.” It seems that no matter how bad things can get, time and prayer can help any situation.
That’s all the news from Lake Happymother’sday and Hello to Sheryl B.
