The cold has returned to our area.  Or should I say has finally come.  We sure have had wonderful weather for most of us, but the loggers are having lots of trouble in the woods due to the fact that the swamps aren’t freezing over and they can’t get to their logging sights.  This warmer weather sure helps the fuel consumption, though.

The YOT Seniors with AARP are hosting a Driver Refresher Course (also known as 55-Alive) on Tuesday, January 24, 2006.  The four - hour session will be held at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell from 9 AM until 1 PM and will cover important reminders about driving defensively, how to avoid accidents and collisions, and how the effects of aging can impact your driving skills.  Attending this class entitles you to a reduction in your auto insurance.  You do not need to be a current member of YOT or AARP to attend.  Cost is $10.00.  All are welcome to attend but space is limited.  Please contact Carolyn Krogh at 310-8357 to make your class reservations.

There will be NO SCHOOL on January 23rd and February 20th for our students.  There will be conferences for the students on January 25th and 26th in the afternoon and evening.  The there will be a Spring Break for all students and staff in April.  There will be NO SCHOOL from April 10th to the 17th.

I received an after Christmas letter from Former Pastor Ed and Gayle Nieman.  They are still living and ministering in Bricelyn, MN.  Bricelyn is just on the Mn Border with Iowa about 30 miles West of Albert Lea, Mn.  The Nieman’s just finished a fun vacation with their families over the holidays.  They were at daughter Rhea and Raul’s and granddaughters, Grace, age 5, and Trinity, age 1, for Christmas Day along with their other daughter Jenifer, her husband Kyle, and grandsons, Noah, age 6 and Jonah Johnson, age 2.

Ed is keeping busy with church activities and Habitat for Humanity.  Gayle is subbing as a para at school and in community club.  They have started planning for their retirement in 4 years.  Ed’s mother will be celebrating her 90th Birthday in February, so they have plans to have a big family celebration with her in Iowa.
The Nieman’s wish everyone a very Happy New Year and stop by to see them if you can.

The Cub Scout Troop, 176 attended the UMD Bulldogs Hockey Game on January 14th at the DECC in Duluth.  The Dogs lost the game, but the boys and their parents sure had a good time.
