Wright News by Jennie K. Hanson May 23, 2006

With all the graduations and graduation parties going on this weekend, I would like to congratulate all our area Grads.  You all have met the requirements of your school and have done a great job doing so.  When a person thinks of all the assignments that have been completed in 13 years of school and then those who have gone to 2, 4, or more years of college, it’s staggering.  We all wish you well in your future endeavors.

With that in mind, Ebba Hedin has a reason to be proud.  Three of her grandchildren have just graduated from college within a 24 - hour period of time.  Lindsay Peterson, daughter of Julie and Mike Peterson received her Master’s in Education from St. Mary’s University in Winona, Mn.  Her brother Nicolas Peterson, graduated from the UMD with a degree in Accounting and Finance and then Danny Nyberg, son of Cherie and Don Nyberg of Cromwell graduated from Moorehead State - U of M with a degree in Mathematics and Actuarial Science.

If you have information on other college grads, please let me know by call, mail, or e-mail.

School will be out for the summer on June 1st.  Let’s all take the time to thank all the people at the school for all the dedicated work they do. There are so many people who make our school what it is and they deserve our thanks.  So, on behalf of the whole community, “THANKS!”

The PTA will be having a Track and Field Day at the school on the last day of school.  The day will be filled with games and events. Parents/grandparents and community members are invited to come and cheer on the kids. Bring your own lawn chairs or blankets.  A picnic lunch will be available to purchase for $2.60 per person but it must be pre-ordered by May 30th so they can get a count.  Just call the school to reserve a meal. Lunch will be served between 11:30 - 12:30 outside.  Grades 3-6 will participate from 8:45 - 11:30 and K-2 will be from 12:30 - 3.  Volunteers are still needed so call Jeanne Weimer at 644-3593 if you can volunteer.

The Wright Little League and Tee Ball practice times will be set for every Tuesday and Thursday night at 6 PM at the Leland Tiili Memorial Ball Field in Wright.  Brad Ramberg at 644-1180 will coach Little League and Heather Heino and Selena Smith will coach Tee-Ball.  The first game will be on May 30th at home against McGregor.  Please come at 5:30 for pictures on May 30th if you want them taken this year.

Twenty-six kids attended Sunday School at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on May 21st to receive their Attendance Medals and Certificates.  Madisyn Anderson had the best attendance and several others also had great attendance.

St. John’s Lutheran Church will be having their Annual Spring Dinner at the church on June 9th from 5 - 7 PM.  They will also be celebrating their 100th Anniversary in August of this year.

Open Library will be closed for the rest of the school year and will reopen on Thursdays starting on June 15th between 10 AM and 12 PM and will continue through August.

The new all-color 2006 Cromwellians are in!  This is the first year that the annual has been printed all in color.  They are beautiful and well worth $35.00.  There are a few left if you still want one.  Call the school to get yours.

There will be a concert at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell on Sunday, June 11th at 10:30 AM.  Back by popular demand is the Hitch Family known as “Simple Grace”.  This is a family of a mom and dad and 5 or 6 kids with wonderful voices.

The next meeting of the Carlton County Retired Educators will be at the 4-Seasons Restaurant (formerly the Golden Gate) in Scanlon on June 13th at 11:30 AM.  The guest speaker will be Jan Jader and she will talk about her world travels.

The newly organized Family Pride 4-H Club did the highway clean up for Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Saturday, May 20th.  Thanks go out to these fine youth for a job well done.

Several area young girls and gals participated in Becky Schneberger’s Dance Studio Recital on the weekend of May 19-22nd.  Suzy Goodin, of Wright, is one of the dance instructors.

It’s nice to be back home after our recent bus trip to Branson, Missouri. Those going from our area were June Kingsley (the late Ken’s widow), Selma Houck, Ramona Goranson and her daughter Shirley Guillard, Vera and Paul Crotteau, and Bob and myself.  There were 39 going from this area.  We left on May 15th and returned on the 20th.  Ruby was our tour guide and her husband Arne was the bus driver.  They did a fantastic job of making our trip enjoyable.  It’s amazing how much is going on in Branson.  We were able to go to Lambert’s Famous Roll Tossing Restaurant, the Daniel O’Donnel Show, Shoji Tabuchi Show, Mickey Gilly, Pierce Arrow Show, The Brett Family, Table Rock Dam, and much more.  We were even able to go to the new Titanic Museum where they had over 400 exhibits including an exact replica of the grand staircase.  We got to touch an iceberg, feel the temperature of the water at sea, and try to climb the deck as the ship was sinking.  Each person received a passport when they started the tour and had to wait till the end of the tour to see if you were one of the passengers who survived or perished.  I survived, but Bob didn’t. It was well worth while and we learned a lot.

That’s all the news from Lake Backontheroadagain and Hello to all the folks who went to Branson with Traveler’s Choice.
