Wright News by Jennie K. Hanson July 3, 2006

The YOT is holding their July Pot Luck on Tuesday, July 11th, at 1 PM at the Cromwell Pavilion.  Please try to wear your best Sun Bonnet or Straw Hat for a contest.  Also, they will be having an Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Social. Please come and bring a guest.  Join in the Fun!!

This is the last time I will be reminding you to try to attend the Wrong Days Activities in Wright over the July 14-16th weekend.  Check out the posters to find out about all the events.

Brian Saaristo, a local soldier from Wright (They live in the former Audrey Goranson home) was wounded in Iraq last week.  I don’t have all the details, but he lost both of his feet in a roadside bomb to the humvee that he was in.  I have heard that all the other soldiers in the humvee were killed in the bomb blast.  Brian was flown to Germany and then to Washington, DC where he will heal and recuperate from his injuries.  His wife Cheryl and their two children flew out to Washington on Tuesday, the 4th of July.  There will be cans placed in area businesses for you to donate funds to this very deserving family.  Let’s all support them and pray for Brian’s healing and rehabilitation.  It will be a long road ahead for them all.

Thrivent for Lutherans will be holding their annual picnic at Chub Lake on Wednesday, July 19th in the evening.  Please call your agent if you plan to attend, as they need reservations so they can plan for the number of hamburger and brats to prepare.

Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell will be holding Vacation Bible School the week of July 31st - August 4th.  They will be featuring the “Fiesta” program this year.  Kids 4 years old to 6th Grade are welcome to attend, but please register with Don Oman or Pastor Matt ahead of time. Pastor Matt will also be holding his last service on Sunday, July 30th at both churches.  He and wife Sue will be leaving for Emery, Wisconsin on August 1st.

Karen and Jim Dahl are new grandparents for the 1st time as their son Steven and his wife Alissa Dahl had a baby daughter.  Little Marissa May Dahl was born on May 16, 2006.  Marissa’s other grandparents are John and Val Zack of Cloquet, and Brenda Schmidt of Florida.  Great Grandparents are Arnold and Marcella Dahl of Wright, Lorraine and Willard Lindholm of Cromwell, the late Jim Randall, Cliff and Jane Zack of Cloquet and Robert and Mary Schmidt of Moose Lake.  Congratulations to these folks.  This new baby is lovingly welcomed into their families.  Unless you have never had grandchildren, you can’t understand how this new child changes your life.  It’s a wonderful feeling.

The Class of 1955 and 1956 will be meeting at the Fireside in McGregor on Saturday, July 15th at 1:30 PM.  Please call Alice Lake to register ahead of time.

Vivian Murdock has been enjoying retirement as she retired on April 28th from her sewing job in Cloquet.  Cloyce and Vivian celebrated by taking a 5 weeks trip all over the U. S. visiting family and friends.  They are now home enjoying the summer.

A Hanson Family Reunion was held at the Murdocks on Saturday, July 1st, 2006.  Vernon, Bob, Vivian and Vera and some of their families were able to attend.  Also their cousin Mary Jane Bailey and her husband Jim from Washington State was able to attend.  The weather sure was beautiful for all the family get-to-gathers over the 4th of July weekend.

Our blessings go out to Sascha Elsie Mae Korpela, daughter of Shane and Melissa Korpela, who was baptized at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wright, MN on Sunday, July 2nd by Pastor N. Matt Saarem.  Her sponsors are Karina Seppela, Jason Seppela, and Shale Korpela.

Congratulations go out to Ervin Pettit who retired from the Altrista (formerly Diamond Match) Company in Cloquet.  He was in the class of 1963 and worked at Diamond most if now all these years since graduation. I’m sure he will be around at Wrong Days, so give him a pat on the back for a job well done and a well-deserved retirement.

That’s all the news from Lake Getouttowrongdays.  Hello to Shane and Melissa Korpela and children and have a great week!  Enjoy our summer and GO TWINS!!
