10/23/2006

Hi, I just returned from Denver, Colorado from a 6-day visit with relatives.  Dinah Tveit of Floodwood came along, too.  She had never been to Denver or even the state of Colorado before, so it was quite a thrill for her.  We went to the Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes National Park, the Denver Mint; the Hammond’s Candy Factory, Krispy Kreme’s and several other places.  The weather was just great.  It was in the 60’s and 70’s until the day we left.  That day it was in the 40’s and snowing, so we were there at just the right times.  While in Denver we visited with my brother John and his wife Mary and their kids and grandkids.  We helped their son, Nathan, celebrate his 35th Birthday on October 14th.  We also visited with Angie (Dahlman), Eddie and little Mateo Luna and Ruth (Larson) and Spencer Jonland.  Ruth had the misfortune of falling and breaking her hip while we were there and had to have a hip replacement surgery done, so I visited her in the hospital.  She is doing quite well and we wish her a speedy recovery.

I just got an E-mail from Charity Kaspari, (a family member of Brian’s) and she informed me that there will be a Spaghetti Dinner/Silent Auction for Brian Saaristo at the Cloquet Armory, 801 Hwy 33 South, on Saturday, November 11, 2006 from 4 - 8 PM.  Adults $10.00 and children 10 and under $5.00.  Please contact Charity at 218-722-1701 if you can help out or email her at .

Our sympathy is extended to the family of Richard Chambers who died on October 11th, 2006.  His wife Carolyn, children, Shanna and her family, David and his fiancée, Dean Johnson, Deb Houck, Jr. and Dennis Johnson will dearly remember him.  He also leaves a brother, Douglas; two sisters, Linda and Carol; 9 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  His funeral was held on October 16, 2006 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wright, Mn. Our sympathy to the family of Esther Berg of Moose Lake who died on October 16, 2006.  She was the wife Methodist Pastor Walter Berg.  The Bergs were in Cromwell from 1962- 1970. She led Vacation Bible School for several years in Cromwell.  She also was a past president of the Carlton County Retired Educators and she will be especially missed by them and her former students and teaching colleagues.

The Carlton County Retired Educators will meet at Seasons in Scanlon, Mn on Tuesday, November 14th at 11:30 AM.  Special guests will be Sue and Dorothy Weets and they will entertain with stories and violin music.

Wayne and Liz Thom want to thank everyone who came to their 40th Wedding Anniversary Party and for those who sent cards, gave gifts, and expressed their well wishes which made their day so special. They thank God for the warmth and love of family and friends.  It was a wonderful day and they feel truly blessed.

Their sons and families were able to celebrate with the Thom’s, which also made their celebration special.  Their son Mike had to leave on Friday, October 6th.  He received orders on his way home that he’ll be sent to Iraq following some training in Texas.  We need to keep him in your thoughts and prayers along with all our brave soldiers in harm’s way.

If you could, would you let me know of all our military that are in Iraq, the reserves, or serving in active duty around the world.  I would like to publish a list before November 11th, Veteran’s Day.  We need to keep them all in our thoughts and prayers.

The Beehive Community Club, County road 4 will be holding their Annual Mojakka Supper on Saturday, November 4th from 10:30 AM - 7 PM.  This is a Thrivent Matching Funds Event and you can contact Ina Jobe for more information.  218-389-6591.

Marlin Jobe, 75, died on October 15, 2006 at his home in Mahtowa, MN.  He married Ina Line on October 20, 1956 so they were married just 5 days shy of their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Their children are Edward, Marilyn, Harold, Beverly, Carolyn, and David and their families.  They also have 14 grandchildren, 8 great grand children, and brothers Lloyd and Robert (Lois).

Jeannette Houck Vigstol also died this past week.  She was a 1956 Cromwell High School Graduate.

It’s been a heavy week for deaths in our area.  We are feeling the sadness of those around us.  Please keep all these families in your thoughts and prayers.

Other up-coming Events:  Hunter’s Supper at Bethany in Cromwell on the 3rd. Hunter’s Supper at the Tamarack School on November 4th.  Cromwell Community Arts and Craft Sale on the 4th at the school.  Matt Hakala’s Benefit on the 11th in Carlton.

Household Hint: When hammering nails, especially small nails, stick the nail through a piece of thin cardboard, or the teeth of a comb and hold this while hammering.  Saves many a finger.

That’s all the news from Lake Waytoomuchtodoandnotmuchtimetodoit.  Hello to all of the family and friends of Richard Chambers.
