Wright News by Jennie K. Hanson February 12, 2007

There will be a Benefit for Mike Nobis on Saturday, March 31st at the Pavilion in Cromwell.  This will be a Chili Feed with chili, bread, crackers, pop, coffee and dessert.  There will also be a Silent Auction and Raffle.  This is sponsored by the area businesses including the Villa Vista, The bar, The restaurant and the Fire Department.

Mike was critically injured in an early morning accident on December 19, 2007.  He is blind in both eyes now, but they hope for some site to return in one eye.  He is working with the Light House for the Blind and is learning Braille and how to use the white cane.  He lives with his parents and brother Dan on Cross Lake, Minnesota.  If you have a way to help with this benefit, please let Rick at the Country Inn know as soon as possible.

Don’t forget the next Senior Dance will be at the Cromwell Park Pavilion on February 22nd from 1 – 4 PM.  Florian Chmielewski will be providing the dance music.  Senior dances are held the last Thursday of the month.

Lacy Lundin of Cromwell, MN was placed on the Dean’s List at Lake Superior College (Duluth, MN) for the 2006 Fall Semester. Lacy is studying Massage Therapy.

Did you see the wonderful article about our local Co-op Store in Wright in the latest edition of the CAP-TRICO News Letter?  It’s on the inside cover of the last page and the writer did a wonderful job of describing the Co-op Store and the employees.  General Stores are almost a thing of the past, and the store in Wright is an endangered species.  Deb Johnson the manager says, “ I know we can’t compete with the big stores, so we just kind of figure out what people want, and try to keep prices reasonable.” Also, stop in the coffee is always on in the new Meeting Place at the store.

Annie and Micky Heaser and Cherie and Donald Nyberg have reason to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year.  Their children, Brenda (Heaser) and Dean Nyberg are the proud parents of a 19 & 1/4 inch, 6 lb. 6 oz. baby boy named Dylan Dean.  He was born on February 2, 2007.  This is the first grandchild for Cherie and Donald.  Congratulations all!

I was just looking at the calendar and noticed that Daylight Savings Time starts on March 11th this year and doesn’t end till November 4th.  WOW, that’s 8 months of DST.  Oh, well we will have more daylight to get things done this way.  Just Kidding!  I know there isn’t more daylight, just more in the evenings.

The Red Hat Ladies will be meeting at the Villa Vista on Wednesday the 21st at 1:30 PM. Guests are welcome to attend these meetings.

There will be NO SCHOOL on Monday, February 19th in honor of President’s Day.

I usually do the typing for the Wright News on Mondays and since I’m typing this on February 12th, Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday, I thought I’d do a little educating and tell you the story of the Coincidences between President Abraham Lincoln and President John F. Kennedy.  It goes something like this: Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.  John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.  Lincoln was elected President in 1860. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.  The names Lincoln and Kennedy each contain seven letters.  Both were particularly concerned with civil rights. Both their wives lost their children while living in the White House.  Both Presidents were shot on Friday.  Both were shot in the head.  Both were shot in the presence of their wives.  The Secretary of each President warned them not to go to the theater and to Dallas, respectively.  Lincoln’s secretary was named Kennedy.  Kennedy’s secretary was named Lincoln.  Both were assassinated by Southerners.  Both successors were named Johnson.  Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808.  Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.  John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839.  Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939.  Both assassins were known by three names.  Both assassins have names with 15 letters.  Booth ran from the theater and was captured in a warehouse.  Oswald ran from the warehouse and was captured in a theater. To cap it all off, both Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.

There isn’t much time left for the basketball season now.  The boys finish up regular season play on February 26th with a home game vs. Albrook and the Girls last game will be on February 23rd at Esko.

BIBLE VERSE:  Wisdom is the principal thing.  Therefore get wisdom.  And in all your getting, get understanding. Proverbs 4:7.

Household Hint: If you wallpaper a room, make a notation on the wall (in an inconspicuous spot) of the amount of wallpaper and border it took.  This is invaluable information for the next time around.  I even put the date in an inconspicuous spot so I can remember when the job was done.  It’s amazing how fast the years pass and we forget these things.  But then I usually put the date on everything I buy.

That’s all the news from Lake Lookingforwardtospring and Hello to all the Snowbirds out there.  We miss you this winter.
