Wright News by Jennie K. Hanson February 19, 2007

Happy President’s Day a little late, but since I’m typing the news today, just thought I’d mention it.

I just heard that life-long resident; Ken Lind died last night, February 18, 2007.  His funeral will be held on Friday, February 23rd at 11 AM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wright, Mn.  Our sympathy to the Lind Family.

There are many community events going on as usual and I will try to include them in this week’s news.

First off, the Benefit scheduled for March 31st is for Mike Nobis, not his dad Brian.  Somehow I didn’t catch the mistake in last week’s news and hope you forgive me.  Mike was in a car accident and a benefit will be held at the Cromwell Park Pavilion on March 31st for him.  I’ll have more about that in a week or two.

St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church of Wright, MN has set up their Lenten schedule for 2007.

Lenten midweek services will be at 5:30 pm on the 5 Thursdays of March: That’s March 1, 8, 15, 22, 29.  Maundy Thursday and Good Friday worship will also be at 5:30 pm.

Easter worship will be at the regular time of 10:30 AM on the 8th of April. The focus of their Lenten services is “You are My beloved Son”.

Remember: We don’t change the Gospel; the Gospel changes us.

WRONG DAYS IN WRIGHT has been scheduled for JULY 20th, 21st, AND 22nd. A Wrong Days Organizational Meeting will be held on Tuesday March 6th at 7PM at the Fire Hall.

The committee welcomes anyone with ideas and all volunteers with time and energy to help to continue the 42 year tradition.  We need you! The Lenten Services have been scheduled for the Bethany/Bethlehem/United Methodist Church (UMC) in the area.  They will continue with their Jub-i-Lent Musical Series.  Ash Wednesday Service was held at Bethlehem in Wright and services will continue on the 5 Wednesdays in February and March at 7 PM.

Thomas Miller of Cromwell placed 9th in the State Brain Bee a few weeks ago.  Way to go Thomas!

Don’t forget to change your clocks to daylight savings time on March 11th. That’s a bit earlier and it will go till November 4th.  Remember Spring forward and Fall Back.

Presidential Trivia:  FDR’s Scottish terrier, Fala, had something in common with President Zachary Taylor’s horse, Whitey.  Fala, who went almost everywhere the president did, became so popular that when FDR took the dog on an official trip aboard the USS Baltimore, sailors cut hairs off the dog as souvenirs.  They cut so many that little Fala was left almost completely bald!  FDR was also a very superstitious man.  He wouldn’t sit at a table of 13 people, and he refused to leave for a trip on Friday, even though he traveled quite a bit.

George W. Bush has a collection of over 250 signed baseballs. Abraham Lincoln was America’s tallest president.  He was six feet four inches tall but looked taller in his stovepipe hat.  He used that hat to store his important papers.  So the old saying, “Keep it under your hat” may have come from those stovepipe hats.

Household Hint:  A tray of ice cubes run through your garbage disposal once a month will keep the blades sharp.

Bible Verse:  Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved and thy house.  Acts 16:31
