Wright News by Jennie K. Hanson February 26, 2007
Welcome winter! Yes, for those of you who read my news from out of the area, we got over a foot of show over the weekend with lots of drifting and wind, too. It’s beautiful, but creates a lot of unwanted work for many. Ttons of fun for the children, though
Over 150 area folks attended the funeral for Ken Lind, 61, of Wright. His funeral was held at Bethlehem Lutheran church in Wright on February 23, 2007. Pastor Janeva Stromberg officiated, Rick and Sherry Clyde provided special music and the Pallbearers were Doug Wilson, Lawrence Line, Dave Stenson, Bub Stenson, Al Houck, and Dick Billmeier. Ken grew up in the Wright area and stayed for his whole life. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and logger. He leaves behind his wife, Geri and his children Vickie (Mark) Burg of McGregor, Robert (Chelle) of La Port, Mn and Brandon (Heidi) Lind of Montgomery, MN. Also his step-children, Lea, Trent, and Kim (Pfisthner), and Kim Walli. So to his wife, mother, Eleanor, brothers, Jim and Wayne and sister Lois and other friends and relatives we bid a fond Farewell to our friend and neighbor, Kenny Lind!
Dale and Kristy Aho are the proud parents of Jacob Dale. He was born Feb 19th, 2007. He was 7# 10 oz and 20 inches long. Welcoming him home are his sisters, Miranda and Avery and brother Justin. His Grandparents are John and Gerry Aho, Kathy Jokimaki, and Dean Huhta. Great grandparents are Lillian Aho, Marlys Huhta and Edith Jokimaki. Congratulations to this very active and busy family.
Don’t forget to go to the Wright Senior Citizen’s Annual St. Patrick’s / St. Urho’s Day BINGO on Saturday, March 17th starting at 7 PM at the Senior Center in Wright. Fun for all ages.
They are out! The new Presidential Dollar Coins. I got some last week and they are magnificent! They feature a president on the front and the Statue of Liberty on the back. This is the only coin issued that has the words: “E Pluribus Unum and In God We Trust” on the edge of the coin along with the date and mint park. These coins will be issued every 3 months for the next ten years and will have each president on them in the order they were elected. So this year we will get George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. Some may ask when Benjamin Franklin will come out? Well good old Ben never was a president even if he was very influential in the founding of our country.
I got an email from Dave and Michelle Hedin’s daughter, Marnie Johnson. She just wanted to share with you that her grandma Gladys Clark and herself had Arnold and Marcella Dahl over to Gladys’ home for lutefisk dinner on Feb. 18th after church. She came up from Houston, MN with her three children, Lucas, Johanna and Jacob to stay at Grandma’s house. They also had a birthday party for Gladys that afternoon attended by many relatives from Wright and Cromwell. What a terrific day!
I also asked Marnie if she would fill me in on her life and she did. Marnie has been married now for almost nine years and has three children, Lucas , 8, Johanna, 6, (named after Grandma Gladys Johanna), and Jacob, 4. Her husband is from Winona and they are also expecting a fourth baby at the end of May. Marnie works as a registered nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital of the Mayo Clinic, in the Neuroscience Intensive Care, and they live on a farm about 60 miles east of Rochester. Her parents live just outside of Rochester, as do all of her siblings and their spouses, except for her youngest brother Tyler, who is a freshman at UMD. Since her parents sold their home in Carlton, the Cromwell/Wright area has become he only home she has left up north!
You know you’re a Geezer when you forget to go to the Geezer’s meeting. That’s what happened to the geezers on the “turd Tursday” of February. No one came to the meeting! Better luck in March. That’s the 15th. The next Jubilent service will be on Wednesday, March 7th at Bethany with Sharry Waldriff performing at 7 PM with Soup Supper preceding the program. Lenten Services also continue at St. John’s on Thursday evenings at 5:50 PM. There will be a Varo Family Benefit Breakfast at the pavilion in Cromwell on March 17th starting at 8 AM – 1 Pm.
The Benefit for Mike Nobis will be on March 31st at the Cromwell Park Pavilion. Check out the posters for more information.
Trivia: Did you know that those little mini carrots that we have become so fond of are actually big, irregular carrots cut into two inch pieces and then shaped to look like baby carrots? Yes, baby carrots are made, not born. They actually come from whole carrots. The idea originated with a California farmer in the 1980’s. Mike Yurosek was tired of wasting tons of perfectly good, but not perfectly looking carrots so he transformed the lowly carrot into one of the most popular healthy snacks in the U.S. today. Kids and adults love to scarf them up!
Household Hint: Keep your scissors sharp by cutting a piece of sandpaper occasionally. I don’t know if this works so try it on an old pair first. Bible Verse for the week: Choose you this day whom you will serve…we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15.
