Wright News By Jennie K. Hanson September 28, 2005

I’m back!  That is I’m back from a trip out to Washington State with my Aunt Irene Bolstad of Floodwood on the Amtrak.  Last week I e-mailed the Wright News from my Cousin Jim Tveit’s computer, of Maryville, Washington. I haven’t had an e-mail capability at my home until about 3 weeks ago, and now I can get on the Internet from anywhere in the country and check my mail or send messages.  Boy, this modern computer age is interesting!

Irene and I arrived home on Saturday, September 24th after a 39 - hour Amtrak trip from Everett, Washington to St. Paul.  Irene’s daughter, Laurie picked us up at the depot and took us to her home in Afton, Mn, then I headed north while Irene stayed with her daughter for another couple of days.

We had a wonderful trip and would highly recommend the Amtrak to anyone traveling.  It takes longer than a plane, but is so relaxing and you get to see the scenery, too.

Sunday school resumed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on the 25th.  There were over 25 kids in attendance for this great Rally Day.  7 kids were given their Bibles during the church service.  They were Dean Johnson, Jordan Suhonen, Emily Warpula, Joshua Taylor, and Dennis, Devon and Mandy Egge. The kids in 4th Grade or older were given Bibles at this time.  Sunday school is at 9 AM every Sunday and is held at the same time as church services.  New kids are always welcome to attend.

Bethlehem Lutheran Church will be having a Meatloaf Supper at the church on Friday, October 7th serving from 5 - 7 PM.  Come on out and enjoy a great meal and the fellowship of friends and neighbors.

The Area Clothing Depot is again giving away coats and sweaters the whole month of October.  Remember that the Depot days are Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10 AM - 3 PM.  Volunteers are always appreciated and needed.  Stop by to see if you can help or just check us out.

Debbie Kempi and Robert Switzer will be married on October 8th, 2005 at 5 PM at Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell.  A dance and reception will follow at the Cromwell Park Pavilion.  Please RSVP at 644-3780 if you plan to attend.

Dorothy Parkki of rural Tamarack (Lawler) would like to thank all her friends and relatives, far and near for making her 90th Birthday a very memorable day.  Your presence meant a lot to her and will be cherished for years to come.  She received many beautiful cards along with gifts and money, which she is so grateful for. She says: “God Bless and keep everyone in his care.”

Karl and Caroline Schatz will celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary and Karl’s 70th Birthday on Saturday, October 1st at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Moose Lake, MN.  There will be a 5 PM Mass followed by a reception and dance in the church social hall.

It seems that here is not much news this week except the deaths of several Wright Residents or former residents.  It is never easy to report the death of loved ones, but there are many of you who are sincerely saddened by these recent deaths.

Also brothers a sister and many stepchildren.  A memorial service was held for him at the Carlton High School on September 24, 2005.

Toivo “Toik” Walli, 91, died on September 16, 2005 in the Villa Vista Nursing Home.  Toivo was preceded in death by his wives, Esther Lake Walli and Irene Korpi Walli.  To his son, Duane and wife Donna Walli of Irvine California, and his stepdaughters, 8 grandchildren, 9 great grand children, and 4 great-great grandchildren, we offer our sympathy to you all.

Larry Kumm, 51, of Wright died on September 15, 2005 after a long battle with cancer.  Larry was born in 1953 and graduated from Cromwell High School in 1971.  Larry had served in the Navy, farmed and worked construction.  To his parents, Glenn and Edith Kumm, his sister Sandy and her husband Bruce Plante, and other friends and relatives, we offer our sincere sympathy. Larry will be dearly missed.

Our community was shocked to hear of the recent death of Diane Stewart, 51 of Tamarack and Wright.  She died in the Cloquet hospital on September 23, 2005.  Her funeral was held at the McGregor Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 28, 2005.  Her husband, Fred and their sons Michael and Joseph will dearly miss her.

That’s all the news from Lake Gladtobebacksafeandsound and Hello to all the families who have recently lost loved ones.  You are in our prayers.
